Hi, I cannot see the option to switch from dynamic to fixed graphics in the BIOS settings. I have the latest BIOS update for my laptop (I think it is), currently it's at version 03.60.48F.1B (or F.1B) and the required update is F.1A or higher to get this option. My AMD Radeon 6770m is at its latest version as well, (8.882.2.2000) it is one update higher than the required version I believe. So, I have the ingredients to be able to go to fixed mode, but why is the option not showing up?

open catalyst control panel (right click on blank arear of screen and select graphics properties) and then go to the power menu item on the left side and then select the based upon power source option. This will allow dedicated on A/C and intergrated on battery.
There is no other work a around that I know of as most people get BSOD when they disable intel graphics in the device manager. -
Do you mean use the AMD GPU when the laptop is either plugged in or unplugged? If so then I've always had it set that way, and I don't get the benefits of having the fixed graphics enabled in doing so. Thanks for the help though.. as you're the only one whose bothered to respond.

Can you tell us a little bit more about your laptop? Is it from the early dv7/dv6-60xx series? Because unlike the laptops that followed they don't have dynamic/fixed graphics switch in the bios, instead they are always in "fixed mode".
-
I got this laptop new from HP in May of 2011, if that helps any
-
I'm afraid not really. But I have this useful link: HP help forum post
" The option to change from Dynamic to Fixed in BIOS update only applies for dv6-6100 and dv7-6100 Series Notebooks. " (from the second post - by a HP employee)
You are probably in "fixed" mode already - and always have been and will be.... So, if you have a problem (which you do, or why are you here?!
) then it's probably related to what combination (either HD3000 only, or HD3000+RHD6770M banana) is causing something to go wrong.

Judging from the BIOS list at the top of this forum, it would appear that I have a 60xx or a 61xx model. Is there a more definite way for me to check for sure?
-
Don't you have the laptop's original box? (just in case you need to return it?). If you don't then take a look into your battery compartment (you'll have to remove the battery in order to do that, there should be a little sticker with the exact model number on it).
-
The box is at my parents house and they recently moved out of state, so me recovering it now is very slim. Anyway, after removing the battery this laptop is in fact a dv7t 6000. Anything about I can do about this fixed mode dilemma?
-
Can you explain what's wrong? Your laptop is (was and always will be) in fixed mode. This is fine!
What's not so good is however that HP stopped updating the 6770M+HD3000 drivers. So, we are sort of stuck with the one year old update of a one-and-a-half year old driver
(Unless you are willing to install the unofficial leshcat driver) -
Don't HP release a bios for that?, you need a new bios for that. Check the dv6/7 6xxx owner thread.
-
see the 6th post of this thread.
"The option to change from Dynamic to Fixed in BIOS update only applies for dv6-6100 and dv7-6100 Series Notebooks. " -
then he probably struck in dynamic unless he find a unlocked bios.
-
no, the first generation of these HP laptops are in fixed mode from the get go.
-
Ah, I guess I misunderstood earlier.

You were panicked unnecessarily. Post #6 makes it more clear
