    Hello,

I bought an HP dv7 a couple years ago and my wife a dv5. About a year ago mine started getting "picky" about which charger I used. One of the chargers would work fine, the other one I'd have to jiggle for a few minutes to get it in just the right spot to get it to charge, usually the right spot would be with the plug only partially inserted into the socket. The charger that didn't require any monkey business worked equally well in either laptop. Now the charger that was working in my dv7 has died, it won't charge either laptop. I tried swapping the AC power cords between the two chargers, but it didn't matter. I bought an aftermarket charger, but it works in my wife's dv5, but not my dv7. Has anyone seen this type of issue before? I tried spraying contact cleaner into the DC socket of my dv7 and then blowing it out with compressed air, but it didn't help.

I found the excellent instructions at: How to disassemble HP Pavilion dv7 series notebook >> Inside my laptop

I got the bezel off the notebook, but it doesn't look like the DC jack is removable/repairable, so I put it back together.
