    Hello,

This morning I bought a dv7-6163us. I have access to MSDNAA since I am a computer science student. I got the laptop into the bloaty version of windows that comes from the factory and immediately went about installing my clean version of windows 7 pro. After installing win 7 pro w/sp 1 I got to the desktop and it seems as though there are NO drivers at all for the system. I had basic graphics capability as it was running in 1024x768 but wifi/ethernet didn't work at all.

I've done this same procedure before with my last laptop (a toshiba that shipped with vista if it matters) and had no errors, so I don't think I did anything wrong with the install. It seems to me as though the problem stems from the fact that the hardware in the computer is so new the disk didn't contain any of the proper drivers to set the system up. If anyone has any suggestions for how to get around this or how to get my system running win 7 pro I would be HUGELY grateful.

There was a folder... "c:\swsetup" this had all the drivers and software.

That has all the garbage in it too though right?

Has anyone else experienced this before?

He is right that the drivers are on that folder and if you made a backup install it from those drivers, if not go to HP site and download them from there. I put a link below:
Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion dv7-6163us Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Go to the link and download the drivers that you need, the graphics, the wifi, etc.
Also you could have done a minimal install and just used the key to upgrade the home premium to the professional version. That would also have kept the necessary drivers without the bloatware.

Have others on this (or similar) systems been able to do clean installs without jumping through hoops though?

I'm not sure if I'm just missing something? But this seems very peculiar. I did a recovery back to the original state so I can make a backup of the drivers, but it seems like more of a hassle than normal to make this work.

Are all of the necessary drivers under the ./drivers folder? i.e. everything to make the system run minus the bloatware?

Lots of people have done clean installs of Windows 7, like myself. In fact you have to if you upgrade to a SSD.

But you have to copy over the swsetup folder and install all the drivers after you do it. :p

There is nothing quite like "jumping into water with both feet before looking for rocks," so to speak.

The below should help avoid the rocks. ;)
