    Hi All

I'm torn between the dv7 and the Dell Studio 17. Each one has some features I prefer over the other. I'm looking forward to reading more hands on reviews once they are available. One thing about the HP that bothers me, though, is the half sized arrow keys. They look way too small and not at all convenient to use, especially if you have larger fingers. I don't understand why HP went with this design. It could be the reason I would choose not to buy this computer. For now I'll wait and see.

Will the DV7 come with the 9600 GT as the dedicated graphics card option? Or is HP providing a high end graphics card like the 9800?

Hi, I'm looking forward to purchasing one of these. I have some questions though.. what happened to the 1650x1050 screen resolution? I hope they have a preconfigured model with it.

The only prices I've seen so far is 1499.99 (us) for the dv-1020us at jr.com and amazon. Is it just me or is this.. expensive?

i'm not satisfaied with my hp because it is eqiupped with the 8600m gs so i'm going to sell it and get a getway. hp just doesnt seem to put high end gpu's in their products except there very high end models(hdx) and it's a 8800m gts not even a gtx but oh well

edit: i know the 9600 gt has the same specs as the 8800m gts
    256 bit
    512 vram
    64 shader cpu's
just the clock speeds on the 9600 gt is alot higher
so i want to see the benckmarks to see if nvidia just renamed this card to or if there's a difference in performance

I was hoping for a 1920x1200 screen option this time around. I'm a little disappointed that HP doesn't offer one in their entertainment line. I much prefer HP's design to Dell's, but I'm leaning towards Dell because of this. Otherwise, this would be the perfect computer.

I actually talked to a guy that replaced his hp screan with a 1920x1200 screan sold by a seperate manufacturer. That may be an option later down the road. but I would think it would look weird not matching the rest of the body of the laptop. IDK about the exact resolutions on this laptop so we can still cross our fingers for the 1920x1200.

It will match perfectly fine. Why? You are replacing the screen, which is mounted inside the bezel of the laptop, not the bezel itself. There's nothing weird about that.

Have any of you heard of DDR3 RAM for laptops. I read some articles about montevina supporting it, I might just buy DDR3 RAM seperatally if it works with the HP motherboard. (crossing my fingers) AND WHAT A NOOB RESOLUTION FOR THE SCREEN. WOW!!!!! US BETTER HAVE A BETTER OPTION.

Ok so if i have this right, $1399 CDN for a dv7t with a 9600M GT and Blu-Ray? Isn't that a really good price?!

And if this is any indication, will we see a dv5t with similar specs (at least 9600M GT, I don't need Blu-Ray) for around $1000 CDN? I would LOVE that!

    - I just bought the dv7t and here are my specs. The order come up to roughly over $2300 which is very steep. I should be receiving it in 2 weeks.

    - I kept it 3gig because it was free and I could always buy a 2gig ddr2 for $55 and save $45.

    - I moved up to the infinity display because as the sales person says "The screen reaches closer up to the edge of the laptop for a cleaner look... or something.
ALSO IMPORTANT NOTE**** users purchasing this order who also ordered the quickdock for $93(probably student discount price) will be getting an older version which does not work with the new dv series. They need to order a bit more expensive one from the sales rep... I don't know why but he states that the model placed online was an error and hasn't been updated yet as that model is used for the previous dv series (dv6000, dv9000, etc).

    - The HP400 gig dock drive xb3000, I think it is the dock selection underneath the quickdock selection is for the harddrive alone not the xb3000, as HP sales rep has said that they have been sold out of xb3000.

    - I didn't take the blu-ray because I already have a playstation 3 to enjoy any movies, and I'm looking for the drive price to drop in the near future.

    - I also took 2yr accidental damage protection... personally because I broke my tx1000us screen 3 weeks after buying it last year... and I don't want to make the same mistake. Anyways there isn't much of a deal with this laptop, but I am really really excited.

Also the sales rep stated that the new dv series can read upto 8gigs of ram but only has 2 dimm slots. So we'll all just have to wait for a affordable 4 gig ram stick.

Here is a link to the picture of the TV tuner. It is the yellow input next to the disc drive.
    http://www.laptopmag.com/review/newgallery.aspx?id=16453&img=8

What do you guys make of this? I have seen some sort of a connector that would be able to utilize this size to coaxial, but I have never seen or tried it. If anyone with this sort of port has expierence please post.

Here is an e-mail I just received from HP, what do you guys make of it?

    Hello Daniel,

Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.

From your E-mail, I understand that you want to know if there is a built in TV Tuner Card and a "Over the Air" receptor in the HP Pavilion dv7-1000 CTO Notebook PC.

I understand your concern. Let me assist you in this regard.

Daniel, I would like to inform you that, HP Pavilion dv7-1000 series is bundled with a TV Tuner Card and a TV Tuner Antenna which are optional components.

The notebook features an optional integrated TV tuner. The notebook supports the following integrated TV tuners—with TV tuner antennas for both DVB-T and ATSC/NTSC—for the various regions:

ATSC/NTSC/QAM Hybrid TV Tuner — US
WW Analog/DVB-T TV Tuner — APJ
    DVB-T Tuner — EMEA

If you are ordering a Customized To Order Notebook (CTO) then you can specify the TV Tuner Card to be included. For more information, please visit the below mentioned URL:

New to the forums here, but alot of good reviews, and info. Have been debating for awhile between Dell, and HP as many others have. Have had mixed results with both in the past, probably the worst being Dell, at least in regards to customer service. Having just placed an order for a custom DV7000, was suprised to see the dv7t show up the next day on the website. Afer reevaluating the choices, called into HP, changed the order to the dv7t. I run a large online community, and am responsible for most of our web designing, coding, and database management, and will thoroughly test it when it arrives. No punches will be pulled, nor will any laptop(s) be harmed in the process of testing.

    Specs on config:

Here is the latest e-mail in the series of Tuner questions I have asked:

    Daniel,

    Thank you for writing back.

Daniel, I have gone through the database and found that, the yellow port beside the optical drive is the MCX connector and I am glad to say that you can connect the coaxial cable to the connector.

Hope the information provided was helpful with regard to your concern. If you need further assistance, please reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you further.

    Sincerely,

    Gladys

    HP Total Care

Do you guys think the "MCX" connector will receive TV signals and interpret them correctally. I googled MCX connector and it said something about broadband in wikipedia. Why wouth they make a direct broadband connection as well as an ethernet connection?
