I don't think they will give you the $500 coupon as it's expired now.
Luckily, I won't even be getting ym DV7T until the beginning of next month, so I have plrenty of time to wait for a new coupon and get a HDX16 or 18.
-
Well I am thoroughly happy to report that the polished turd in a box whoops I mean the HP DV7t was picked up and shipped back to it's hole today, HP should get it back in 2 days, pretty sad when you give someone a unit to replace a deffective unit (I had the DV9310) and it runs hotter then the deffective unit to be replaced....on a side note I replaced it with the Sony Vaio VGN-FW139E.
P8400 2.26 Core2Duo
3 Gigs of DDR2Ram
Blu-ray drive
200 Gig 7200 RPM Hard Drive
ATi HD 3470 256 MB Dedicated
16.4 Inch widescreen
XBRITE-High Color Screen
Bluetooth
1.3 MP Webcam
No Artic silver applied, and no cooler, sitting flat on desk,
Hottest GPU got while gaming was 62 celsius, so I'm done in the DV7T section, you boys and gals enjoy your easybake ovens, as I said HP lost a 8 year customer after 3 faulty laptop series, I will never own anythingelse with the HP logo on it again, paid for, free or otherwise, overpriced, overpolished, Overrated GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
How much was the Sony? Just curious. You should have a drink and put your feet up - you sound tense
-
Good for you Cobra.
Now would please stop posting in this thread anymore, I'm really really tired of you griping away at what is otherwise is a great laptop. It sucks that you got a defective unit, but seriously stop making a huge fuss here. Go make a "HP sux" thread. -
whats all this about heat issues i thought hp would have sorted it by now?
i wanna get a dv7 with a 9600gt gpu shuld i be worried, i really wanna get one to replace my dv6152eu cos the wireless died hope hp put in preventative measures for this line would be a shame for them to ruin a great looking lineup of laptops? -
And it's kind of ironic that you say this.. what exactly was the price of your Sony? -
-
Lol that may be the first time I've heard "overpriced" when talking about HP...
Sorry but sony owns that title all to itself...
And the dv7t is a great laptop. I will never say a word against it. However the HDX has a higher resolution, a bigger screen, and hopefully will offer a better graphics card option and therefore a better experience with gaming and Bluray...
That's all I have to say. I'm not opening it times because I know I'll probably end up returning and I don't want to deal with the hassle of packing it back up again... -
Having a nice drink now! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
So with all of that being said charonhill do some research and read all of my posts before opening your mouth to speak on something you know nothing about, about someone overexaggerating, everyone with the 9200m GS seems to be wanting to return it, or exchange it, what does that tell you? -
i have the 9200m GS it dosent get too hot for me on the dv7t U ARE OVER EXAGGERATING STOP COMPLAINING GO TO A SONY FORUM. dont get mad get glad or another forum lol

I bought the hp model dv7-1020us, and i must said that is a great piece of technology and runs cooler. Probably havent the best cpu but for normal use and some gamplay runs smoothly and without any lag.
I downloaded the quickplay upgrade from hp and my blue rays runs very fast and i played a lot of team fortress 2 and i never had any issues with this one.
My only concern is the black color that displayed while playing or watching a movie. It's an TFT infinity widescreen but i adjusted the best settings possible, and now is pretty decent.
Also the battery runs out like 3 hours with the battery saver option and doing light surfing and watching some videos.
So i must said that hp is a great company that i'm very proud owner of this laptop. I think that i dont need an extra warranty because it's seems an solid laptop that doesn't stress too much with all it features. -

Well, my expected ship date (today) came and went without receiving shipping notice. Is HP usually pretty good about shipping on time?
-
-
Thanks for rubbing that in!
-
jleonard, I didn't get any tracking info from HP tell a day after the notebook arrived.
-
Ahh, I can see this might turn into a fun experience with HP. Charonill, yours shipped six days earlier than the expected ship date? Wow, I think you were one of the lucky ones. Jleonard711, you and I have already talked about our similar experience. My ship date is 9/25, and I'm praying it ships early, so I can get it sooner, and then most likely return it for the HDX16.
As for using that $500 coupon on an exchange: The HP rep I spoke with told me I couldn't use the coupon if I were to cancel my order and get the HDX instead (if the coupon had expired by then, which it has). However, there may be a different policy for returns. Besides having to return the dv7, we would both have to wait for another comparable coupon to make it worth our while. And who knows when that will be...
PM me if you hear anything different that might be useful, since our situations are so similar. -

to rub it in even further - both of the dv7t units which i ordered, approx 2 weeks apart - were shipped earlier than the estimated date of shipment and, furthermore, both arrived before the ship date even came! l0l
lucky? maybe but several people have had their units ship before the estimated dates, so i dont think we were that lucky. -
If anyone is interested in buying my dv7t let me know. It's still packaged and everything.
Worth over $2,400. I'll sell it for $2,000 flat. That includes shipping. -
Bwahahahahaha
-
I'm sorta sad that I won't be a dv7t owner though...all the people I met in this forum who were dv7t owners were all cool. I will miss it. -

LOL, nice move Cass. either way, if you kept the dv7t or got the newer model, you'd still have a kick a$$ unit. best of luck with your new machine.

Just wanted to stop by and say hi to "old friends"
I ended up going b@lls to the wall and bought a beast of a notebook, which cost about 2x the amount of my dv7t. I just kept having doubts on performance so I didn't take any chances.
Glad to see everyone is still happy with the dv7t, it really is a SWEET laptop for the $ (especially if you got in on the 30% off coupon).
See ya around. -

My DV7t is on it's way, but I plan on returning it for the HDX18t. Now, though, I am having seconds thoughts all together about anything HP. They seem to be spending sooooo much time on the casing and setting up the laptop to be a home theater system (which is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of). Choosing the the same stinky nvidia card for the hdx18t is as dumb as not having the ultra brightview on the DV7t. The only reason I am "considering" the HDX18t is because of the ultra bightview option and the resolution. I really like the layout of the DV7t, but if the HDX18t retains the same gpu as the DV7t....I am skipping both and looking elsewhere. The friggin' Gateways have twice the gaming power for half as much.

I'm pretty happy with the display (non-Infinity, 1680x1050) - the HDX18 give yous a little more H and a bit more V (to accommodate the wider display). On screen HD movies look great on the DV7T, but for downloaded content we will mainly just play them back via the HDMI to our 55" Sony LCD. However I imagine if you were going to use your notebook as a main "TV" solution, I'd be more inclined to get the true HD spec with the wider aspect ratio.
I guess the brightview has more backlight sources for better consistency?
I guess with the big discount I received, I feel like this machine was a killer deal at the $1280 I paid (4GB, 2.26, 320G, 9600, Bluray, Wifi-N/BT/Fingerprint).
I just talked to HP and tomorrow is technically the last day through the rep said he would do it today to avoid any potential issues. I wonder how long the RMA works? I guess they issue a call tag for a FedEx pickup so it goes pretty quickly. -
It does have the ddr3, but the 3d marks are still not what you would expect from an HDX machine.
-
It is more function over form, but I would hardly call it fugly. -
I am a little surpised that since the HDX seems more like a competitor to the Dell XPS line it didn't go a little more heavy duty on the video [?] -
Personally I'm not a PC gamer...like at all. So the complaints about the graphics card for the HDX aren't really that big a deal to me.
However it seems like the HDX is being marketed as a big entertainment laptop that is capable of heavy duty gaming. Therefore HP should have the brains to realize what heavy PC gamers want in a laptop. -
Well, I called and got a return authorization number. I have 5 days to ship it out, so I am going to hang on till the last minute to decide.
-
That would build me in another 5 days to decide, hahaha! Though the more I read about the HDX 18 the less it seems like the hassle for my particular usage. -
i 2 am not a heavy pc gamer mostly on ps3 but when i do play on the dv7t its fine
-
I'm a big gamer, but most of it is done on a 360 (Halo addict). However, my Dv7t provides more than enough power for my gaming needs for the next few years or so. Most of my problems have been with Vista and my constant system tweaking rather than the notebook itself so I consider it a well spent $1300. Though I rather like the looks of the HDX18t, I doubt I can afford it as I'm quite broke after paying for tuition etc....alas the natual equilibrium of a college student.
-
Ok, I found this when I went to configure your nagamaki...
-
Yeah, I don't think that the velociraptor (or whatever it is) comes with it...
-
Those screen hinges look pretty cheap. I think I'm going to shop around a bit for the price you pay for the HDX18t I expect more to distinguish it from the DV7t. Lot's of returns coming your way HP.
-
-
blah why can't they just put a better screen on the dv7t! The machine rocked.
I'm back in "notebook research hell" again -
I just picked up DV7t. I don't think I'll keep it. Not the glare, but the overall screen quality is going to be an issue. I just don't know why HP couldn't have you used a better card for the HDX18t. The friggin' new Gateway's 3d marks a more than twice that of the HDX18t. Anyway, why is taking so long for the HDX18t to come out.
-
no offence guys, but I tried helping cobra out over hours of google chat, and the dv7t is a very poorly designed system. For one it has three different thermal ACM's on the motehrboard which output different temperatures, the screen sucks as you guys have said in the last posts, and the heatsink is the size of a quarter.
I dont care how much you say cobra is making it up, cause he isnt. He is running his laptop in an airconditioned room and gave proof that his temperatures were actually that high.
For HP to make a system which gets that hot is out of pure lack of design. That heatsink is way too small to cool the cpu, gpu and chipset. Their was room to have a bigger heatsink and a better fan, but Hp decided to skimp on these to cut weight and make more money off the consumer. It really shows when the gpu hits 200+F.
It shows Hp did not design the cooling system properly. Any game should run on a laptop, and the cooling system should be able to take the heat from anything you throw at it. If it cannot the system has a problem, which the dv7t does.
A properly designed system should never run over 60C on any part. My system ran hot with stock fans, so I upgraded the heatsink, added more fins, and made CAD drawings of my stock fans, which I sent to EBM PAPST, so they could design higher performance fans to fit my laptop. It used to peak at 70C, and now it never breaks 50C, and my components are a lot more powerful than what the dv7t has.

I decided to keep our DV7T! I have no idea if/when the HDX18 was going to be released and to be honest, there wasn't any features it had over this machine (that would have justified what would have likely been more cost). As I mentioned before, if it was a primary entertainment display, I would likely value a little more screen, but when we use it for video/photos, we hook up to our main Sony TV.
My screen has good color, consistent back lighting (the corners are even well lit), and gives me plenty of resolution for my usage. Everything else functions just fine: no overheating problems (the left palm rest only slightly warms up), video/BD playback is terrific - the integrated WiFi-N works really well all around the World HQ, even way out on the deck!
During my recent trip to DC it was easily able to handle an App and DB server and a VPC running the reference VHD (and also tether to an 8925 for 3G wireless access). For matter I sort of bought the machine specifically for that 3 day trip, so it was paid for before the first day was over
I guess if I were playing GPU/CPU intensive games I'd be a little more concerned, but as a business tool and "non-to-light-gaming" home use (video/web/email/photos) it's a solid machine, especially when the price is factored in (it will likely be replaced in 2-3 years anyway).
I'd say that of the problems I've encountered, most if not all are OS related - IE7/Vista is still a bit touchy on occasion (restarting IE or FF resolve it quickly). I seem to have resolved all potential Vista compatibility issues with my dev tools (so I also scrapped any notion of installing XP). -

^ dude, i completely agree with your assessment. I too have not had issues with my machine even when gaming. the wristpad gets warm but it's nothing troubling or something that would cause concern. i hook it up to my 42" plasma and use windows media center to watch whatever i have ;]
the other day, for the hell of it, i decided to hook it up to my screen via hdmi (i usually use vga) and i started playing unreal tournement... ****, this game comes to life on a screen that large. it feels like you're in the game. hahaha!
i use it also for web / light gaming / burning dvds but mostly for watching shows . i bought a happauge tv tuner which is another nice addition since it integrates perfectly into windows media center.
