I was feeling the same way about the screen just before mine arrived 2 weeks ago. BTW mine has the same specs except for the processor....I have the P8700. I also went with the non-infinity version because I want to keep glare down to a minimum. No doubt there are those who have complained about the brightness of their screens but for me I don't see it......in fact my screen is so bright (especially in a dark environment) that I have to sometimes tone it down. Also, the level of brightness.....despite only one backlight.....is extremely uniform across all of the screen. Where my display does fall a bit short however, is in the viewing angle department. If I were intending to use it so that multiple viewers could watch a presentation video or movie, I would want something better. Since I don't intend to use it in that manner, it's a non issue for me.

PS - If you use it with just a battery in the "HP Recommended" power mode the screen is quite dim......if you adjust the setting to "High Performance" when using battery power it is as good as if you have it plugged in.

nope, that required downgrading the BIOS.

I believe the new RivaTuner supports the Nvidia 181 series driver and lower for driver level overclocking.

You can try this guide out of the HDX18t forum. This is basically what I did, but I used ATITOOL to scan for artifacts.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4505517&postcount=4036

I run my 9600m at 625/1300/500 when gaming. Since you have to Force "3D performance mode" I created a "low power" setting 200/400/200 that I use when the notebook starts up, then manually switch it to overclock mode to play.

Do Not Get The INFINITY SCREEN! I just got scammed by HP today because I got the Infinity Display and this display is nice and everything but gave me two major problems. First is that Dust gets trapped between the two screens and that with the Infinity display, your keys will hit the screen which will cause blemishes.

HP s did not want to cover my laptop by warranty because they said it was due to physical damage, but honestly it was because it is a design flaw and many others with the screen also came about the same problems as me.

So, if you do have the Infinity Screen and have blemishes or dust, call them and complain!!!! Seriously call them, because I made them put that issue on a "ISSUE TRACKER" and if more people join me and complain, then they will put that screen in RECALL and have it replaced with a new screen. Even if you had the screen and damaged it trying to take out the dust, they will fix it as well for you. So call them, complain, tell them that you and many others with the screen have dust, and hopefully they will recall the screen and put brand new screens on out notebooks!!!

So call HP and complain if you have DUST or KEY BLEMISHES on your screen!!! They won't replace it right away, they just need to know that it is a very common problem and that there is a flaw in their design!

Every GPU and Memory DIMM is different so you need to carefully test each clock increase.

The 9600m GPU seems to have a lot of head room to hit the 600 Mhz mark, but the memory for each notebook will be different. I counted 8 memory chips when I took mine apart and the law of the "weakest link" applies here. The one memory DIMM with the slowest speed will set your overall overclock speed.

Mine maxed out at 510Mhz, but I have seen other owners reach 570Mhz, and still others only get 486Mhz.

Be careful and as a suggestion if you use RivaTuner setup a low clock setting (200/400/200) and use the option in RivaTuner to make these the startup clock speeds. You don't want to make the mistake of overclocking your GPU to the point where it locks up your notebook and setting it as the startup option. :D (this NEVER happened to me)

Has anyone tried the 2.0 Turbo Memory from Intel in their dv7t yet. I know there are some empty slots in mine due to no TV tuner + another next to it. I have read on this forum that V2 is much better than the first one coming in a 2GB and 4GB. If anyone has tried it what did you do for a mounting bracket?

I got my hp laptop with infinity display for almost six months and i dont have that problem with the dust or the key blemishes. I usually cover it with a pad to avoid the dust entering while i'm not using.

I hate the infinity display at first, because of the glare view. But right now i feel pretty normal xD.

Okay, after having my dv7t for nearly a month, I have two complaints,

    A. My touchpad flexes. Really weird. I slapped another hard drive in there and it fixed it, but seriously, that should NOT happen.

    B. The second is lights. The screen is crap. I bought the infinity, I really don't mind the glare. Its the bloody lighting I hate. In the day time, with the backlighting all the way up ts waaaaaay too dim, in the night time with the light all the way down, its waaaaaay too bright. That and the stupid white lights of the quick launch bar are BLINDING at night. Like little flash lights shining into your eyes. I love the on/plugged in/hard drive lights on the front, they're quite dim, but you can easily see them. Also, the bloody HP logo. It lights up a dark room worse than an Apple laptop logo. I'd kill to turn the HP light off.

Maybe I'm just used to my last laptop and its ambient light sensor and a screen that actually has a decent amount of lighting options, aka, barely backlit, to blindingly bright in a bright room. :p

Minor complaints really, its a good laptop, I dislike the lights though. :p

    On the dust issue...

I have had my dv7 since August and so far have not had any problems with dust. But, I guess my luck ran out because earlier this week two pieces of dust got stuck this week behind the infinity display... if anyone has any advice please let me know.

do what someone else did = put electrical tape over the HP logo! =P

alternatively, someone on this board also took the display apart and disconnected the light up logo.

i duno. it's a pretty toy. i wouldn't take it apart. i'd totally duct tape that bish.

Anyone hear a slight "wheezing" sound come out of their laptop whenever they're scrolling up and down web pages? I can also hear it sometimes when I'm moving around in FPS games. I think it may be a sound card issue because it disappears when I mute the laptop.

Well...I do love the "little beast", it does have some flaws...which laptop doesn't...

On the other hand, in about an hour or so I will try to dual boot my DV7 with Windows 7. I will let everyone know how that goes...

so does anyone else want to comment on screen brightness with the non-infinity display? the input I've gotten so far is a little bit reassuring but still... 130 cd/m2 is probably the dimmest I've ever seen a display. like I said, most dells and lenovos are at least 2x brighter. 200 cd/m2 is the standard. even cheap $500 toshibas and whatnot are around 160-170 candelas.

again, I'd be using it indoors but during the day. and once again, I'm really hoping the screen quality stuff is overhyped.
