I noticed that with the HDX16t to ): Hey if you guys have time could someone post some pics. There are really no good pics of this laptop on the internet.

One thing I wanna do is order recovery discs. NOT A FAN OF HP getting rid of recovery discs when you order.

Any ideas of a fix for this? it really bugs the out of me.

My HDX16 didn't have the issue, that thing was perfect in every way. It's like the one that got away. LOL

Do you mean is there a fix to making the remote fit better in the laptop? Probably not? Is it stubborn and just wont go in gradually? Well I'd rather have this issue than like an Audio problem lol.

hax0r and wayne - i got my dv7t in sept of 08 and maaad people complained of the same issue - having to press the control in really hard to get it out.

i think it's normal behavior. so forget about it and enjoy your machines! =D

Occasionally my screen goes blank for 2-3 seconds and then comes back. Windows then says the nvidia driver stopped working but recovered.

I'm using 186.44, which I believe is the latest version. Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Anyone else experience this?

I did experience that issue.. almost once per day. I went to nvidia for the latest driver, and they did have 186.81, but it won't install for some reason... then I installed 186.91, from here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=404164

So far I didn't have any issue... Let me know how it works for you.

I was wondering what is the real difference between this and the dv8t? Other than size obviously? I do think the dv7t should have 1080p.

1080p seems to be the main difference.

I prefer the resolution on the dv7 for a couple of reasons:

    1.) Easier on my eyes
    2.) Better for gaming performance

I think I'll hold off a bit longer and see if the issue persists.

Yeah how is the 1600x900 resolution. I've heard mixed reviews about THAT resolution. I guess its suppose to be 16:9 ratio?

Yeah, 16:9 is the present and future, like it or not. It's not that big of a difference from 16:10 but yeah -- less vertical pixels is a downer. I'm content with it though.

Anyone know how to get OSD for brightness? I blew away the pre-installed OS and slapped on Win 7 Ultimate 64. I'm using some MS software for the sound control display but would like to see brightness as well.

I don't believe the HP remote control comes with the dv7t that I ordered a couple of days ago (I didn't get the TV tuner). What is the cheapest way to get the HP remote control?

The fingerprint is the same as on the HDX16t which worked amazingly well. I believe 12 cell batteries are available on eBay. Don't quote me on that.

$1399.99 after rebates, before tax. Also 5% bing cashback.

I don't have much experience with HP and its bloatware. Do you recommend I reinstall windoze from scratch once I get it? Does it come with an installation disk and key, or is it going to be a pain? I'm also adding a linux mint partition.

I also want to add a second hard drive. Anyone know which is the right caddy for this model?

    Cheers!

Congrats on your Purchase! :D It is always better to install Windows from scratch. I am also debating this too. On the HDX 16 the notebook was extremely fast out of the box with the bloatware. IT really wasn't that bad. No it will NOT come with any restore discs. There will be a recovery partition on drive C. I'm not sure about the hard drive.

Damn! LOL...figures. I only got the $200.00 off coupon plus the instant $ off from HP. I really don't want the infinity display...too glossy. I would have upgraded the hard drive though.

Hmmm, maybe I will call HP tomorrow and see if they will bend...probably not.

Oh well...can't win em all. I still got a great deal on mine.

Could have had the 500GB HD and still saved $50. WAAAAAHHHH..... :)

    Hi All,
Almost bought this machine yesterday, found one huge concern today in a review which stated you could NOT export your bluray disc signal to your HDTV. Is this true? One reason I liked the deal is that I thought I was also getting a blu-ray player for my HDTV. Thanks for any info on this. Why have a bluray player if you can ONLY watch the signal on the laptop? HMMMM

There's nothing like that. That guy might have lost patience. I played Blu-ray to my HDTV without any issue. One piece of advice though, don't clone the display when you are playing Blu-ray. It doesn't work that way.
Use 'fn + f4' key to change the output to HDTV only (it might display as Projector) or go to nVidia control panel to change the output.

There's a recovery tool in the start menu. Click on that and follow the link. You are required to have at least 3 4.7GB DVD. You cannot use to create the disk using the double layer DVD. It'll take at least an hour or more to get all the Recovery Disk created.

I would recommend to go with fresh installation (but don't forget to create the Recovery disks first). Fresh installation will only take 30 min or less, and add another 30 min for all the missing drivers. It'll look and feel much better... Anyway, it'll almost take that much (1 hour or more) to find and uninstall all the bloatware.. ans still you'll feel like something is still not right... Therefore let's do it right :D by doing clean install. :)

For the second hard drive caddy go to http://www.partsurfer.hp.com and select country USA and search for 517639-001.

Hey all. Ordered the dv8t (bigger brother) of this machine yesterday. Should be coming in a week or two.

Can anyone who has the dv7t or dv8t do a quick 3Dmark benchmark on it (06 or Vantage)? Would be greatly appreciated.

Been reading some things about the 'Infinity Display' I hope its not less bright than the Regular display. I like the glossy but hope it is in fact better than the standard panel.

I've noticed several times after reboot (not sure if it's every time) that my nvidia settings are not applied so my screen looks washed out. I have to go back into the nvidia control panel and select the custom settings I set.

I'm thinking this might be due to the driver I'm using (186.44) since I also reported issues with the screen going blank and then the driver fixing itself occasionally.

I did try a newer driver that someone recommended but for some reason it wouldn't install...I might have to try and give that another go. Also, the newer driver on nvidia's website only gives me the option for audio and not video which is a bit odd.

Are you trying this driver http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windo...ok_win7_winvista_64bit_international_whql.exe

that should work, its the Windows 7 64bit driver for the NVIDIA GT 230M card. Maybe unistall what you have on your computer now then try installing this one. Have you tried the HP driver from there site as well?

I ordered my dv7t quad with the 4 gig memory configuration and now I'm kicking myself for not spending a couple hundred more to max out the memory. Do you think 4 gigs will cover most needs? I will use this machine for regular daily stuff like email, browsing, watching TV and movies as well as lots of photo editing and some audio and video recording and editing. I can always order a new one and return this one. Will the extra memory actually get used or is 4 gigs plenty? BTW I'm running Win7 pro 64.

    Thanks in advance!

Personally I wouldn't return it just because you didn't get more than 4GB of ram. 4GB is PLENTY of RAM. This notebook is very expandable so you'll definitely be able to upgrade. Honestly with Windows 7 2GB is FINE.

So i received my laptop today. AWESOME but I noticed that the left side of the keyboard is a little flimsy. Anyone else notice this with theirs?
