    Hey mates !
I am from india and have plans of buying a laptop real soon..i will however buy the laptop from us through shipping. Is the HP Dv7t qe a good buy for a budget around $1000? i know this question must have been asked like hundreds of times. But buddies, please spare a second and help me out. I am really confused here and actually just a novice. I am quite concerned about people complaining about the volume and the fan's noise in the hp notebook. Also,i would like to know the use of having 2 hard disks and i also want to know what people mean by replacing HD with SSD? I do not want absolute silence or something like that,a little noise from the lappy is tolerable . But would it just be little? and would the volume and over heating be a problem ?
    Cheers !
    Looking for help,
    your friend :)

Alright just to answer a few questions you have here:

    Fan Noise:
As I've heard, this hasn't been a problem in the new dv7t's, infact, HP seems to have fixed the heating problem this time around and it seems to be the coolest laptop yet. Overheating is a non-existent problem.

    Dual HDD/SSD:
This is possible because the dv7t has 2 hard drive bays. SSD or HDD should not be a problem, as long as you have the kit and the hardware to install it.

At about $1000, you could purchase the fastest Mobile i7 Processor (2nd Gen), an extremely powerful mobile graphics card, and a 1600x900 screen which is nothing to complain about. I'd say that it's a great deal, but you don't need to hear this from me: just ask the other people who already have their dv7t's.

    I hope that helps!

You'll get good laptop deals if you buy from the US. Bu what about warranty? There's no word called International warranty in HP's dictionary. If you have any problems with it in India they may not even touch it. I've read about people having problems with HP international models. ASUS is one of the few companies which provide international warranty. Dell may service your international model considering their exceptional service record in India. But HP? I doubt. I think you should enquire about this from HP toll free no. Tell them that your buying from US because that model of dv7 is not there in India (which is true. See the HP India website. They have a crappy dv7 here with i3 processor)

Yeah. Be sure to select the AMD Radeon HD 6770M Graphics card. It's only a +$25 to the price, which is a great deal.

The Indian dv7 model has crappy ATI 6490 graphics card which is not so good for gaming compared to 6770. Your much better off with the dv6 which has the 6770M as an option. Plus the 1600x900 screen on dv7 will take its toll on the 6490 bringing down the FPS even further. And I dont think you can upgrade the graphics card on HP laptops later!
My advice - Go for the dv6 model which has ATI 6770M and 1366x768 screen for gaming. You'll get good FPS and even future games should play quite well because of 1366x768 screen which has lesser no of pixels than 1600x900 screen.

Btw are you buying it in India?

This is true. Native resolution actually performs better than a game that is forced to play in 1600x900 aspect ratio. If you want better gaming performance and more battery life, buy the dv6t. If you want a better screen, buy the dv7t.

I'm confused now. Which model exactly are you buying?
Both US models of the dv6t and dv7t have the option to upgrade to the 6770M graphics card.

for just reading and writing DVDs and nothing more, wouldnt it be an added advantage if i choose the "FREE Upgrade to Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner" over "SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support" ?

Are you sure it is possible for you to buy online? It takes nearly 1 month, 30 days for the computer to be ready. Make sure you have someone in America when it ships.

If you buy in a retail store, they will not have the same specs as the ones online. So beware

Hey just to clarify. I thought by upgrading the ATI card, you meant whether once you buy a laptop with say ATI 6490/6770M whether later on down the line you can upgrade to a better graphics card. I dont think that is possible.

Upgrading ATI 6490 to 6770M now while ordering the laptop is possible! :)

but these upgrades and ones likes the free upgrade to blu ray player and free upgrade to a 8 gb ram from the normal 6 gb ones are not possible when i buy from a retailer?!?! *rolls eyes* phew, deciding and buying a laptop sure seems to be a difficult task ! Wish i could get those upgrades in a retailer and also around the same cost as the online ones ! any idea on how big the cost margin will be? between the retailer and the online prices?

America retailers are the same as India, you want more you pay more. ATM with the coupon discount you can get your dream computer for 874.99 +tax online, at the retailer probably 1100 to 1200 dollars + tax. And good luck finding one with Sandy bridge processor.

    Online: 1000

Retailer: 1300 ( for a last gen model)

DV7t is not out yet at a retail store, so cross that out of your mind, maybe try ebay

1300 is for the retailer without upgrades?
n now that clarifies all my doubts !

    to clarify everything

Bye bye dream computer NOT going to happen, under your circumstances.

When your friend goes to a retail store they will sell him a Honda 2010 model NOT a Honda 2011 model for extra money.

    Apply that to your situation.
