    Howdy folks,

I'm finally going to pull the trigger on a dv7t later this evening. I've decided on every specification except the graphics card.

    HP Pavilion dv7t
    Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
    Intel P8400 2.26GHz
    WSXGA+ (1680x1050) InfinityBrightView display
2GB DDR2 RAM (upgrading to 4GB upon arrival)
    320GB Hard Drive
    Intel 5100 AGN
DVD SuperMulti (sans LightScribe, would never use it)

The only question is which nVIDIA graphics card to get...the 256mb 9200M GS is standard, but the benchmark scores I've seen for it trail behind entry-level ATI Radeon Mobility HD3450. The 512mb 9600M GT is more GPU than I'll ever need (I'm not a gamer), but I'm thinking the 9600M will be the best choice in the interest of "future-proofing".

I wish HP offered something in the middle like the 9500M GS or even the 9600M GS, but they don't...so do I pay for the 9600M GT upgrade ($100, or $70 if the coupon still works when I buy)?

I'm not a gamer, but I ordered the 9600gt for my dv7t. If the 30% off coupon had not been available, I would have gone with the 9200gs.

Grab the 9600m GT. It will last you a longer duration.

    I went with the 9600GT. But then again, I'm a gamer. :)

I finally placed my order this morning and I think I'll be very happy with the specs I selected-

    HP Pavilion dv7t
    Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
    Intel P8400 (2.26GHz) processor
    17.0" WSXGA+ (1680x1050) Infinity BrightView display
2GB DDR2 RAM (upgrade to 4GB upon arrival)
512mb nVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics
    320GB Hard Drive
    DVD SuperMulti
    Intel 5100AGN Wi-Fi link
Integrated 56k modem (just in case)

The total before discounts was $1,546.98 and the 30% off coupon brought it down to $1,082.89 plus sales tax of $67.31. It's saying it will be built on or before Wednesday, September 10...so only a two week wait. I waited five weeks for my ThinkPad back in April!
