Mine shipped according to HP but when i look up the tracking number from the HP site the FedEx page says this:

No information for the following shipments/FedEx Office orders has been received by our system yet. Please try again later or contact Customer Service.

Yea if it shipped today like mine, figure by Monday they'll have it processed into their system. Last month when I ordered my DV7t, it took exactly 2 days with the 5-7 days selected for shipping.

Seems like they really aren't moving over the weekends. Mine "shipped" last Friday, showed up in FedEx stating that it was recieved after the last pickup on Saturday, and finally left China on Tuesday. I think I read somewhere in this forum that Sunday and Monday are off days there. I paid for 2 day shipping and it arrived at my house on Wednesday morning. Pretty fast once it actually got going.

POS imo. I got rid of mine on day 1. Should I need it again it can be reinstalled easily.

I've read that 2 day shipping is a rip off and that proved to be true when I chose 5-7 and got it in 2 days and you know its NOT coming before 2 days with 2 day shipping.

Don't you need it for the volume and bass/treble controls to show the little indicator window?

Yes, that 50% off 8GB RAM upgrade was a great deal, and I ordered one with 8GB (and the 1TB drive option!).

After reading the review a few pages back, I'm getting excited! Hopefully, it will ship this weekend.

1Tb in a laptop kinda seems hard to believe but I wouldn't even fill 100GB and I went with the 500gb lol

Correct me if I am wrong but I read a little while ago that Windows media player does NOT play blueRay disk?? And apparently there is no fix in the works for it?

I hope someone can shed a little light on this before I dump the HP stuff.
I guess I can just go buy a blueray and test it first.

I'll probably put in an SSD, so I ordered the dual HD option so I get the caddy. I'll use the extra 500GB elsewhere...

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the shipping hp/FedEx shipping process?

I have somewhat of a problem on my hands. Since I ordered this laptop with the bill me later it has to ship to my home address which is about 3 hours away from the place where I go to school and currently live. This wasnt too big of a problem since i figured i could skip a day or so to pick it up. The problem is now that it is finals week next week and I cant skip any of that.

So the question would be is there any way i could have someone from my family pick it up from fedex or do I have to be there in person? If someone cant pick it up besides me then how long can they hold it?

I'm in the same exact situation. No one home, they don't deliver and can't afford to miss school due to finals. I believe if someone, doesn't matter who, signs for it then your fine. If Fedex doesn't get a signature they're not leaving it. I know if the post office requires a sig and they leave a door tag you can pick it up there but I don't know if this is the case for fedex. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to go to the nearest fedex location and get it. Should say on the door tag. However I would strive to be home so you can save yourself a headache yet hopefully it won't come to that.

"Caddy" is the hard drive holder and cable assembly. I'm not positive, but if the other dual drive HP notebooks are any example, adding a 2nd drive is not just a "pop it in" deal. You need a carrier and a (proprietary) cable/connector to hook it up. When you order your HP with two drives, you obviously get both caddies.

The notebooks in my sig are only some of the notebooks in my collection. Guitar players have multiple guitars, car buffs have more than one car, and so I have more than one notebook. You can never have too much technology. :D

I see thanks for telling me that. Are there any more advantages to the dual hard drives? I just went with the singe 500gb one.

LOL, so how do you decide which one to take when going somewhere? :D

I ordered mine with the single 500gb hard drive. I'm hoping that manufacturers start making notebook 1TB and 1.5TB hd's @ 7200rpm soon (these are available for desktop computers, but will not fit in a laptop). This is a massive amount of space but I plan on using the second hard drive to store ripped blu-rays (that I own, of course) so I can bring it to work and my coworkers and I can watch on a projector or flat screen (God bless HDMI!). At 15-25 gigs a piece, you can see that it would add-up quickly.

Alternatively, I've seen some in this forum who are opting to install a Solid State Drive from which to boot from. From what I hear this is an awesome way to increase speed. Unfortunately, these drives are many times more expensive than standard moving parts hard drives and also requires some kind of manipulation/reprograming of the BIOS which I'm sad to say is over my head.

Maybe some helpful knowledgeable soul will post a walkthrough for a good SSD setup on a dv8t...? ;)

Naw thats Quicktouch for those buttons. Forgive me. I just noticed I did NOT uninstall them on this laptop. I got rid of it on my Dragon. My HDX Dragon works fine without that stuff and as for Blu-Ray I cannot confirm (i'm lazy atm) to test Media Smart with a bluray on this box to see if it played. My Dragon DID play bluray on the Media Smart stuff but without all the fancy extra stuff you can do with a standalone software bluray/dvd player ie Power DVD Ultra etc (which I use).

    I hope that makes sense.

Yeah when you try to play blu ray on Windows Media Center it just opens the blu ray in HP Meida Smart.

So unless you have somthing else to play blu ray w/, I'd keep the Media Smart installed.

Thanks for the review and info. It might be useful, though, if you posted your dv8t Quad specs in the review (like the list from your order confirmation). It would help to clarify which options you have (like, which LCD option are you writing and taking pictures of?)...

Hi, I'm thinking of returning my Dell studio xps 1645 (don't get me started on all the problems these things have) and getting a dv8t. I have a few questions for you owners.

    1) Is the optical drive swapable? I had an old dell latitude whose floppy drive was a removable module that you could replace with other things if need be. I really like this feature as sometimes you could use the bay for optical, or then swap it out for another hard drive or something.

    3) Would upgrading to a SSD in the future be a problem do you think?

    3) Any issues that really bother you about it?

    4) Is Bing cash back the best discount deal and could I use it in conjunction with a school discount?

    Thanks!

I had the same experience with customer service. I reached the customer resolution team and could not understand them. They all spoke very poor English. They repeatedly read a prepared repsonse to questions that were in now way related to the problems. They also did not have any knowledge of the products. The parts depatrment also has no knowledge of the products either. However, there is power in the opinions of the population they wish to market and sell their products to.

I asked where are you located and they replied that they are in the Phillipines. THAT IS SO PATHETIC WHEN A LARGE COMPANY LIKE HP CANNOT OFFER BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE. They want your American dollars, but will not hire American workers. This is a major problem with our economy now. I am not trying to offend any individuals from another country, but this is a fact that American are tired of dealing with.

HP's attitude is rather bad. They really have no interest in customer service. They assume you will take it or leave it. They expect others to replace you.

I really like my dv8t computer, but I detest dealing with HP.
HP will not honor pricing or coupon changes without much pressure.

Can anyone help me with a small problem I have developed with my dv8t. I hear a little dink sound when I click on my mouse. This happened after an HP update for HP Assistant and install occurred.

How can I correct the sound when I click the mouse?

Another question is do we need the HP Assistant?

    Thank you for any help.

    30" lcd on HP DV8T?
    I'm still researching.....

I know the DV8T comes with a HMDI 1.3 port, does anyone know if this port and GT230M video card can drive a 2560x1600 30" external LCD?
I heard you need a dual link DVI port....IE XPS M1730

I agree 100%. Few years ago I had a problem with one of my HP laptops and I swear its like talking to freaking robots. Even the chat was robotic. POS. I use forums like these instead of them.

I tried looking if Windows 7 had a new 'mouse click' sound when you click checkbox, but couldn't find it. Sorry Larry. I have no idea what that is.

I've had HP Assistant disabled thru msconfig. I can find my own updates instead of having that sh*t running in the background all the time.

I wonder what luck others are having with the DigitalPersona Personal fingerprint reader software that comes installed on the dv8t. I have successfully enrolled a finger and used the Add Online Account box to enable fingerprint opening of local password-protected Excel files and that works.

But I have not been able to do this for a single online login account. No matter what I do the little floating box says that "This screen is not a login screen" even though it clearly is and has a password box. Just to be sure I just tried to add an account for this forum, same thing happened.

I am using the IE8 browser that came with Win7 on this system.

I have not found the Digital Persona website to be of any help.

I'm looking for a 500g second hd for my dv8. Any suggestions on what drive to go with? Should I just get it from HP? It is my understanding that I need some chassis and cable for the second hard drive, where can I purchase the new Hard drive and everything I need for installation. I would prefer to just make one purchase. This is my first laptop so I dont know much about install or anything so any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eddie

    P.S.

^ i just picked up 2 500gb drives from amazon. they were only $69.99 each but i think the prices went back up to $87.99 now...

you can get a drive from there. as for the chasis, go to www.newmode.us and get one there. i got my chasis for my 2nd drive from them for like $32 shipped.

As of right now the "biggest and best" option is a 500gb 7200rpm HD, like this one from Seagate. They are also available in larger sizes, however only at a slower 5400 rpm, and who wants slower? Currently these run about $100 at Amazon but I've seen them as low 75 bucks.
As for the mounting chasis, or caddy, HP PartSurfer is the only place where I know that I can be sure the mount is compatible and comes with everything needed for installation (screws, eSATA cable). Here you can simply enter your serial number and you will get parts only compatible with your unit.
So to answer your question... because notebook HD bays are not universal in size and configuration, it is unlikely you will find a hard drive and a caddy bundled with it.

    hi all,

i'm a happy girl whose hp dv8t just arrived a few days ago. however, i've noticed that some icons and images look pixelated on my computer, such as when surfing the web. it looks funny - like the edges aren't clearly defined. i tried changing the resolution, but it didn't help. any clue??

(i'm sorry if this is a dumb question compared to all those technical ones you guys usually have.)

your help is much appreciated! thank you :)

Try going into personalization by right clickin the desktop , then display and changing text size to 100%. See if that help. I had to do that as a matter of fact this morning and got rid of my bigger pixelized shtuffs. If that dont help, hopefully u can get more advice from the gurus here.

I read somewhere the default size is set to 125%. I know with 1080p I would need it set to 125% so does this mean icons are going to be blurry?

It is defaulted to 125%. I noticed text and icons all shrank somewhat and all was clearer when I went to 100% text size. As for browsing I think you'll have to nudge Ctrl-+ or - to find your liking. At 125% default the icons do look a bit blown out.

Can anyone provide any insight on the whole LED thing and why they don't have it on the DV8? Yet they had it on the HDX. I'm leaning towards the whole 'premium series' thing. Like we'll put it on our best line, however the dv6t, and dv7t have LED.

A few members have noticed that the LED back lighting on the dv7 and dv6 causes serious color washing.

Hey everyone I received my dv8 on the 11/30 I was pretty happy, but my battery seems to die so fast. Like it'll go from 100% to 93% within 5 minutes. I'm using HP Recommended settings. Is anyone else having the same problem? I contacted HP about it and they wanted me to send in my laptop for fixing but Im thinking about either just getting a battery replacement or exchanging for a brand new one its just I dont want to wait that long for the replacement

So the is this Ultra Brightview Infinity display better than that used on the dv6 and dv7 since there is no LED?
