I cannot seem to find a download for that driver version, the closest I got was this website http://64.29.201.23/drivers/download/NVIDIA~GeForce~GT~230M~.html I am not sure if the 32-bit will work. Go to your device manager and click on the nvidia card. See if you can rollback your driver. If not then you can force upgrade following these steps:

"After you have downloaded the driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_x64_195.62_whql.html) for your system Driver for x64 you will need to run it (the installation will more than likely fail at this point) but will have extracted the files to the following folder:

    C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\195.55\WinVista_Win7_64\International

In this folder you will see a file named nvam.inf. You will need to open this file in notepad and locate these two entries:

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0A28.01% = Section065, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A28&SUBSYS_20311043

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0A28.01% = Section066, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A28&SUBSYS_20311043

You will need to put the entry - 7001103C in where the 20311043 is in both entrys and save the file.

    (example: %NVIDIA_DEV.0A28.01% = Section066, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A28&SUBSYS_7001103C)

From there run the setup file located in this folder and all should install fine. Hope this helps the ones having issues with their video drivers."

Once you force upgrade to 195.62 go to device manager and rollback your driver. You should get driver 8.17.11.9562 like me and the Nvidia control panel should work.

Now with the bass and treble sliders, I do not think you can check them other than by using the touch bar. The only other way that I know of that you can change them is by accessing the IDT Audio Settings from your taskbar at the bottom of the desktop (click the little arrow and you should see it).

Maybe I am not understanding what you mean by flex, but mines seems to be sturdy. I do not notice any flex when I push a button even on the num pad.

Here is what I observe in my current and returned DV8. The Numeric key pad is seperated from the keyboard by some sort of divider. If I push any key to the right of the divider that whole section moves some. If I push any key to the left of the divider there is no extra movement. This exchanged unit is alot better, there is a lot less movement. The first dv8 had alot of flexing on the numeric keypad and almost seemed completly unsupported. I have never seen this on a keyboard before, but the feedback I have gotten from this forum and HP support have eased my concerns.
If you don't have any movement on your keypad I find this perplexing as I thought it was part of the design. Then agin I am not having any of the problems with the fans, volume controls or screen freezes.

There is a divider between the keyboard and keypad. Any key I press to the right of the divider resuts in the whole keypad moving some.

Do someone know the speed of the Blu ray rw found in the dv8t quad? Is the burner 2x or 4x?

I understood it was a x2 speed BD burner, but oddly mine recorded some sessions at 4x. Could be an actual x4 or software BSing me. Shrug.

But I do know my BD burner can burn a 50gig BD-R fer sure, dude. Not just a 25 gigger.

Anyone know how to change the DPI setting for the Windows logon screen. Because when I log on its the normal 100% setting and my desktop is 125% and when I logon the screen flashes which is kind of annoying. When I logoff the screen is at the 125%.

Problems with HP DV8: Generally this seems like driver conflicts and problems with the HP hardware and Windows 7. Five main problem areas. Would appreciate any advice on how to fix or how to resolve with HP:

ONE. The computer will not shut down. if you select "shut down" it hangs indefinitely. It will not suspend or sleep either.

TWO. USB ports don't work. No power. i.e. if i plug in my IPhone, it doesn't see anything there at all.

THREE. Treble/Bass Key comes on randomly. i.e. I'll be in an applications, not touching my keyboard and all of a sudden the key will alt-tab me out of the application as if i had changed treble or bass.

FOUR. Restore points will not work. They all hang indefinintely. Restore to factory default condition won't work either. Since the computer can't shut down.

FIVE. The battery will not charge. HP tests show it as faulty.

I am still within my 3 week return period. All these problems have been like this since I've gotten my PC but I've been unable to resolve them by myself. I don't have a windows restore disk.

Create 3 backup restore DVD's with the Manager and format the thing would be my advice.

Install a fresh copy of 7, and download the latest drivers from the HP site.

Thank you! I have updated the Nvidia driver to the new 195.62 after modding the .inf file and it worked. Everything seems to be running fine now. I didn't have to roll back the driver either. Checked dxdiag and version number was the same as yours now. I even went to my control panel and the Nvidia Control panel opened up just fine. I dont mess much with it anyways. Hope my screen stops blacking out, it's been a couple of hours now with no problems. :D

Yes, I did the same thing with 'forcing' it to upgrade and it worked for the dv8 with the 230M, but not the HDX18T with the 9600GT-M.

It's all operating fine for the time being, even with the original BIOS. I hope I get a good 3 years' out of it. 1 year for laptop worked hard is unlucky, 2 years is average, 3 is a bonus, 4 is bloody lucky. I'm hoping for three with the dv8

The bloatware was starting to effect my system so I did a clean install again lol. Its better to download the latest drivers and have a fresh OS. I found out by downloading the HP Tone Controls the Treble and Bass controls have more control and aren't wacky so to say. Now paying closer attention the system does run faster.

I also was having difficulty backing up my activation but this program worked perfectly.

    There's a update for that. :p

In all seriousness there is. You have to update your bios using WinFlash which you can get below. Select your laptop accordingly to get the proper bios update. This is a update that you have to be very careful with, messing up your bios could and will brick your laptop.

Your brief description is the exact reason I have not updated. :)

I have seen the issues some are having after the bios updates. I am having no apparent problems with my laptop now, so why update the bios? trust me, I am a 15 years veteran of building my own PCs and flashing bios's and I have learned to not rush into things. I will go test my Iphone again and make sure it is still syncing. Unless I absolutely have to I do not want to flash the bios at this point.

    Thanks.

I just bought the dv8 and absolutely love it...but I have one problem.

For some reason my wireless connection speed on this laptop is extremely low (5.5 mbps)...even when I'm right beside the wireless router...if I move to the next room I lose connection completely.

I called HP support and spoke to an extremely nice gentlemen from the Phillipines but he really couldn't do anything to help. I called my ISP provider and after checking they said it was the laptop. I believe them because I have an older hp pavillion laptop that has excellent wireless connection speed from anywhere in the house.

My wireless network is set to WPA-PSK.

Does anyone have any ideas for how I can fix this? I would really appreciate your help. Other than this, I love this laptop but if I can't go wireless I'll have to return it. :(

DV8 is large and has a nice Video, when it works. Carring it around.. hmmm. That was a problem with the two I send back to Hp. If I even moved them an inch the entire computer would freeze up or reboot. Good luck.

Go to HP's support site and install the latest version of BIOS. I had problems 2 and 3 in your list and I bet if you installed the BIOS #1 would be fixed as well. As for the battery not charging, that I would definitely call HP about, that is if the BIOS doesn't fix that as well.

It completely fixed my "Treble" adjuster from popping up on the screen. I had to do the update for my iPhone but if you don't have an iPod then I would wait until the next revision. This fan is going non-stop now and is pretty annoying.

I had a problem that everytime I rebooted from a program started with a bootable CD/DVD, I would get the 'false overtemp fault display'. The BIOS update fixed that; going on two weeks and hasn't returned.

I thought the BIOS update fixed my 'treble display randomly showing up' problem; but it didn't. I've installed all of the HP updates and drivers except the 'HP Tone Control Utility'. It kept showing up until I installed the 'Essential System Updates for Microsoft Windows 7'. It's been almost a week and it hasn't been back. Fixed?? He--, I don't know!

Be aware that once the BIOS is updated, you can't go back. System Recovery will do nothing for the BIOS.

Incidently, you can get rid the of 'max fan speed' by writing down the BIOS settings, do a default reset, and manually re-entering the settings you wrote down.

It could be something as simple as the antenna wires not being connected to the Wi-Fi card. I can't tell you, off-hand, under which bottom cover the Wi-Fi card is located, but it wouldn't be a big deal to pop them all off to find it. The wires are quite thin, but also quite sturdy. They have a right-angle press-on connector that "snaps" onto the mini-PCI Wi-Fi card. Very simple to do. If the assembler forgot to snap the wires on your range would be TERRIBLE!

I'm not entirely sure if I have the answer right, but my access point (according to my network settings) is 00:1e:c7:cb:c2:49

What kind of router is it. I'm getting my full speed on my linksys wrt610n. It can range from 270mpbs to 90 depending on distance and wether I'm using the 5ghz antenna or 2.4ghz antenna. I don't trust the all in one modem/router that the ISP's give you most of the time. I haven't seen one ISP provided router give anything above G yet.

Need some advice.. My dv8t has a 500gb 7200 rpm hd. I'm about to buy another one for the 2nd hd bay and I'll be putting ripped movies and my itunes library on it, that's it.. No programs or games on the new HD. So my question is should I get another 7200rpm 500gb hd or a 1TB 5400rpm hard drive. I am wondering for something as simple as media playback, will there be a noticeable difference between a 5400 and 7200 rpm hdd. I would obviously have the larger capacity but I do not want to sacrifice performance. Thanks for your help!

you wont be able to fit the 1tb in the bay, as the 1tb drives are 2.5" drives but there are a few different sized ones.

there are 7mm drives (just recently came about)

9mm drives (normal/default hdd size) which is what the dv8's bay uses

and the 1tb drive is a 12mm drive, which is too big for the dv8.

i personally would go for a 7200 rpm as transfer speeds will benefit.

Do you have the hdd bracket and adapter?

I have this laptop with TV tuner and everything seems like is working fine except I don't know how to connect it to my satellite receiver.
TV tuner has only regular coax input, but my satellite receiver doesn't have coax output, only HDMI output.
Does anybody know how to connect my satellite box to my laptop TV tuner?
If I connect regular antenna it works fine.
I couln't find any HDMI to coax converter on the net, looks like they don't make them at all.
Anybody tried to use TV tuner with satellite receiver?
And one more question, how do we confirm that HDD speed is really 7200 and not 5400 rpm?
    Thank you

Oh , you are giving me the hardware address , what is the type of internet service , DSL or cable , did you get the access point from the ISP , can you check with them if there is an update to firmware .
also you can try to power off/on the access point .
one last thing run windows update and select optional updates , tick intel wireless drivers , that might help.

    Good Luck

you need a second sat receiver with coax output , since HDMI is used for HDCP copy protection . A converter will allow that copy protection to be broken , so you don't see them readily available .

to check HDD speed get that model # from the device manager under control panel , and google the part # .

Have you considered an external 7200 rpm eSATA drive? My transfer speed is faster than with the 7200 rpm drive in the dv8t-1000.

"Fan On All the Damn Time" problem after updating the BIOS with winflash, I had this issue too and I resolved it. Not exactly sure what the problem was but this is what I did.

I went into the bios and changed the fan on always to off. This did nothing. So I went back in and reverted the settings and of course it didn't do anything. So I went back in one last time out of desperation I set my BIOS to default settings and miraculously now the fan is not always on anymore :D

Hope this helps you guys with the fan issues and people that are scared to update the BIOS b/c of this issue.

I just got that 99.99 warenty from Costco. Nice price compared to HP and was easy to use online at the HP website.

    Thank you.
They don't have satellite receivers with coax output, but I can buy RF modulator, connect composite output from the satellite receiver to RF modulator, and from there connect coax cable to the tuner.
I hope quality of the signal will be ok.

About the HDD, it's HTS725032A9A364 and 7200 rpm, Thanks :)

wont work, most laptops wont allow you to use speed fan to change the speeds, it is however a great program for temp monitoring

Has anyone else noticed that sometimes Windows 7 will freeze? Today it started and hung at the black screen twice right before the logon? I'm really thinking the latest BIOS could resolve this. Windows has only done this 3 times since I reinstalled it??? Anyone else get this???
