That's true. There will also be expresscard slot adapters for usb 3 so if you really need it you have that option.

You are not using a Windows driver... You are using the Nvidia driver 1.8644 provided by windows but except the name of the provider noting is different. This is exactly the same driver as HP provide from the factory.

The screen saver that you linked dosn't use Direct X. So you don't have the issue but if you use a screen saver with Direct X, you will get the bluescreen.

Try using the Dream Aquarium demo, you'll see.

If anyone has a driver with no black screens, no bluescreen with a Direct X screen saver or problems with HDMI and blueray whatever is it and wherever he comes from, i want it. :)

I downloaded Dream Aquarium. AWESOME I MIGHT SAY. It runs completely fine. No BLUESCREENS!!!!! I tested the screensaver and it runs very smoothly. I LOVE IT. Thanks for sharing that.

Have you tried what I did? Remove all the drivers by uninstalling Nvidia through the control panel then reboot then let windows install it. I am having no problems whatsoever.

Yes, realy a nice screen saver. Sometimes i run it just to keep it on my desk when i don't use my computer. I love it and instal it on all my computers.

Is it a fact that people with an aquarium at home have less hearts problems (i know, it is a strange fact but it's true...) What about a virtual aquarium? I don't know but i love to spend some time watching it. :)

So you can't even get it to run on your dv8t? Is that right? I clicked preview and could watch that thing forever lol. Damn those trial versions. The stupid box popped up in the middle of the screensaver telling me to purchase it.

I would love to have a real aquarium again but they are a lot of maintaining.

Yes i can run it but i can't let my computer goes on sleep mode for long time. I noticed that after 2 or 3 hours of sleep mode, the PC crash.

So yes i can use it, i can use it on screen saver, i can even use it on screen saver with the sleep mode but not for hours of sleep mode...

    Thats untrue.
It can be overclocked, but we lack the tools to do it.
Laptops (see specialty laptop makes) include unlocked bios and you can overclock it. In not too long their will probably be a tool for over clocking the mi7.

I really haven't been over there in a couple weeks. I know....It's a NO NO as an Admin!! But that is the nature of what's going on right now. I am in a feud w/ HP. We will see how that goes.

Is there someone here that also has a problem with the powerplug beiing lose? It looks like the powerplug is a bit to small, which causes it move within the socket. Because of this the outer layer of the plug (the ground) connects to the notebook housing sometimes which causes a noise on the headphones that I use. Does anyone have the same problem?

have you seen how much those envys cost??????? the ones that just ripped of the mac design, they are as much as a mac. they are a joke. I saw one for like $2000 at best buy yesterday. And if your sad about usb 3.0, dont be. Firewire is STILL faster, let alone light peak is right around the corner. and if you wanted usb3.0 for faster transfer rates with your external hd, then just go with ssd

It's about stress. An aquarium is stressless and i don't remember who brung the proof of this fact but it was experimented and documented. I can try to find the report on one of my medical reviews but you can believe me.

That's dosn't mean that you can smoke and have a crazy life if you have an aquarium at home. That just means that having an aquarium at home reduce heart problems.

Hauppage makes good tuners. If I needed a tuner, I think I would almost rather have a USB tuner. That way when I wanted to move my laptop, I could just unplug the usb connection which would probably be easier than unplugging the coax that is hooked to the antenna. Just my $0.02. :)

highest model is almost $500 dollars more then mine, smaller screen, smaller cpu. the base starts at 1700, put in the specs of the dv8t and im pretty sure your in the 2400 range. To me this is no different then what mac is doing "well the computer LOOKS pretty..."

I updated my BIOS to F.15 E without any 'bricking' issues. Obviously I haven't checked everything possible; but it appears to be working as good 'as before' the update.

Hi everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster. I bought my DV8 at Christmas time and love it. I’m an OLD AS/400 RPG programmer and want to learn some PC programming for a change, so I looked for the laptop with the biggest screen.

I take digital pictures and had my first problem with the laptop. Whenever I put my SD card from the camera into the reader I get the Black screen of death. It happens to all SD cards I try. I’ve downloaded and installed the JMicron Card Reader Driver from HP’s site but the Black screen of death keeps occurring. Does anyone here have any suggestions on what I could do to fix it?

I just reflashed with the F.15 BIOS without troubles. The problem I seem to be having is that the fan does not run at all. Before flashing with F.12 it seemed to work fine but ever since, no fan at all(except for 100% fan after F.12). What could be causing this? I have changed the Bios settings by resetting to defaults, changing fan always on to disabled and back to enabled and none seem to enable the fan. Using speedfan I am seeing temps above 50 degrees C at idle! Just now when reflashing to F.15 the fans spun up which means they aren't malfunctioning, just not told to run. Anyone have any ideas? I really don't want to send it in and seeing as today is the last day I may be too late.

EDIT: To avoid confusion, the F.15 made no change to the functioning of my fan. I had that problem before and after flashing with F.15.

Do you guys think that the guys at HP changed the parts and materials for the dv8t-1100,except for the SSDs. Because they couldn't have could added an SSD into the chassis and made a new revision of the product, that is just pointless. I think that they changed some parts of the dv8t-1100. What do you guys think?

I did that and they told me the same then put a $450 coupon off. So hopefully they'll do the same of $500 :D

So in the last bios the fan was set to run all the time now its set to be off. are these guys thinking when creating these bios? The fan needs to run in order to cool the system. Any other issues so far?

I think my fan problem is more in depth than just the Bios, not sure why though. What are normal temps at idle? So far I have hibernated 4 times and upon resuming I don't have the crazy bass and treble controls. I didn't seem to have a graphics problem so cant be of help there.

I have enjoyed my DV8 for about 6 weeks with no major issues. I love the screen and tend to watch a lot of Hulu. One issue I'm trying to figure out is that if I am watching something in full screen and then try to change the volume the full screen reduces back to small screen. Anyone found a way to fix this? Overall I am very happy with my purchase and still think this is the best deal around on a large laptop.
