Got it. Thanks for the lesson![]()
Looks like I'm good then.

Maintenance and service guide
To download Windows 7

Latest drivers :

HP Support
Graphic driver :
Nvidia 1.8644 : The one from factory, some bugs (blacks screens), good performances
Nvidia 1.8766 : Bugs?, loose performances on 3D and Direct X compare to 1.8644
Nvidia 1.9562 : Some bugs (blue screens after sleep mode, HDMI issues)
To install an unofficial driver with a modified inf
"After you have downloaded the driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_x64_195.62_whql.html) for your system Driver for x64 you will need to run it (the installation will more than likely fail at this point) but will have extracted the files to the following folder:
C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\195.55\WinVista_Win7_64\International
In this folder you will see a file named nvam.inf. You will need to open this file in notepad and locate these two entries:
%NVIDIA_DEV.0A28.01% = Section065, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A28&SUBSYS_20311043
%NVIDIA_DEV.0A28.01% = Section066, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A28&SUBSYS_20311043
You will need to put the entry - 7001103C in where the 20311043 is in both entrys and save the file.
(example: %NVIDIA_DEV.0A28.01% = Section066, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0A28&SUBSYS_7001103C)
From there run the setup file located in this folder and all should install fine. Hope this helps the ones having issues with their video drivers."
Once you force upgrade to 195.62 go to device manager and rollback your driver. You should get driver 8.17.11.9562 like me and the Nvidia control panel should work.
Now with the bass and treble sliders, I do not think you can check them other than by using the touch bar. The only other way that I know of that you can change them is by accessing the IDT Audio Settings from your taskbar at the bottom of the desktop (click the little arrow and you should see it).
To overclock your graphic card :
MSI afterburner
or
Nvidia System tools
Digital Persona :
Never install the version 4.11.3805. This version is completely bugged and Digital Persona doesn't see the finger print reader anymore + it make the boot time longer.
The latest version is 4.11.3826. The less bugged. If you can't find the last version, install the 4.10.3749 and run updates from the Digital Persona dashboard.
BIOS :
F.05 original from factory (bugs with Ipod synch)
F.12 To correct the bug with Ipod sync, once installed, the fan will start to blow like hell. Just go to BIOS settings, press F9 and F10 (defaut settings - save and exit)
F.13 Seems to be the DV6 mother boards but HP has delivered some of them
F.15 The latest. It correct a bug with speakers when the laptop is docked. (BE VERY CAREFULL WITH THIS UPDATE, MANY PEOPLE HAS BRICKED THE LAPTOP TRYING TO INSTALL IT).
To see your RAM speed (1066Mhrz PC3-8500 or 1333Mhrz PC3-10600)

SWI (tons of infos)
The best hardware upgrade :
SSD hard drive (23 seconds to boot Windows on my DV8 with a SSD Patriot Torxq 128GB, checked by Windows Event manager)
The best free anti virus :
Avira Antivir (don't use Avast, 95% of people posting on security forums with an infected machine have Norton, Mcaffee or Avast)
To delete or modify files owned by Trusted Installer :
XdN Tweaker
or
*** To delete or modify a file owned by trusted installer you have to become the owner of the file.
Just right clic on the file > properties > security > advanced > owner > edit. Then change the owner and close the advanced security settings window, clic on the edit button (properties > security) and change the user rights.

Let's see if we can get some more understanding of this motherboard issue. The later versions of the DV6 motherboard do have the F13 bios. The HP support assistant says:
Computer is a DV8
Product number: VF836AV
System Board: 7001 35.24
BIOS: F.13
SIW.exe reports:
Manufacturer: Hewlett Packard
Motherboard Model: 7001
Motherboard Version: 35.24
BIOS: F.13
Firmware Version: 53.36
What are you seeing with your computers? -
I not really sure who determined that it was a DV6. Is this just based on the bios version that came with it? That does not really make any sense.
-
I'm also failing to see the connection
-
please explain how you came to this conclusion...
thanks for that info -
Sweet, I was working outside today, and I got mad sick so I went to boot up my laptop, and now my wireless card isn't wanted to connect to my router. Grrrr.
I am currently connected to my TouchPro2.
Off to try and figure this crap out.
Edit: So I don't understand.....the same router, the same everything (pass key, etc) but just put another profile (or whatever it's called so it shows up as another name but also has the old one too) and that one connects no problems right away.
Any ideas as to why such a thing would happen? -
My dv8t also came with the f13 bios. I think maybe the person saying it was a dv6 board was just joking.
The gods have smiled upon you, you lucky dog.
My BIOS also has surprisingly few changeable options. I used siw to verify my RAM as the "slow" stuff. (533 MHz PC3-8500) -
I guss I stand among the lucky few as well. SIW confirms 667mhz with PC3-10700 as well.
-
There are no real differences :
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i7-870-1156,2482.html
4% in Winrar and less in Adobe Premiere.
Unless you use a lot those apps, there is no gain in performances. -
i have bios f.06 ... i did a fresh install of win 7 ultimate n it was that way,
everythin seems normal but just a question should i change it or something ?? -
If it aint broke dont fix it
-
I can't get the research button working in IE8. Not sure what the issue is, but it's annoying.

I am fairly new to this forum, but I own several HP products including the dv8 described below, and I cannot agree more wholeheartedly with you, RockOut25. I am about as demanding as a customer can be, but I have learned that a little patience, a compliment here and there and likely the need to repeat and re-explain your issue and, in the worst of cases, request to elevate, and I have always gotten a satisfactory result, more often than not a generous discount and/or a free replacement even past the 21 day window. I am not an HP employee or agent or even a fanboy, but I say this as advice to all of you who experience so much frustration. It took me a few false starts to learn the "formula" for success with HP service. Also, it's best to go direct to the "Resolutions" department, 888-227-8451, as they are empowered to get things done to a far greater extent than the front line agents who answer the 1-800-HPINVENT line. I don't doubt the real frustrations many have had, but this approach really does help, at least sometimes.

I can +1 this as I use to work customer service for Nike and Apple. Nike's CS is THE WORST I have ever encountered, and they don't fix their screwups at all, and charge the customer to ship items back when they screwed up the order, and all kinds of things. When I worked for them I got laid off because I was doing the right thing and giving the customer free shipping for Nike's screw ups and helping the customer out.
Apple's CS on the otherhand is by far one of my favorites and best that I have ever encountered, and I really enjoyed working for them.(And I'm not a Apple Fanboy either, I prefer WindowsMobile and Linux/Win7) -
Does the DV8-1000 support turbo boost or only the DV8-1100 does?
whats the difference between those two?
if you look at the drivers on hp support page only dv8-1100 has the turbo boost driver -
difference is the 1100 means u got a ssd, i believe.
both have turbo boost -
lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
I just discovered something odd and disconcerting: the painted characters on my keyboard are already beginning to fade noticeably and I have only had the thing for 45 days. Seems worse on the left side of the keyboard but that may be coincidence. Called HP and they are going to have a case manager call me to discuss (?) Has anyone noticed this on their dv8?
DV8T Quad Edition •Win7Pro •i7-720QM •6GB DDR3 •500GB 7200RPM SATA •Blu-ray ROM •Bluetooth, TV Tuner -
if the dv8-1000 and dv8-1100 are the same specs how come the turbo boost driver found on the hp support page for the dv8-1100 doesn't work on the dv8-1000 saying not meeting system requirements.?
thanks -
I've only used my dv8t keyboard sparingly for just this sort of reason. I think I'll get a keyboard cover... now. Is it just the key lettering wearing off, or are you beginning to notice the onset of shiny key syndrome? In other words, are you beginning to see a gloss which tends to begin on your spacebar? These keyboards seem to be of high quality, so I was seriously hoping that I wouldn't have to worry about key wear.
On a related note, HDX18 keyboards function as perfect replacements on the DV8t, correct?
If that is the case, I may just buy an hdx18 silicone cover, since the layouts appear to match exactly (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

I don't even know what kind of sh*t is this download from HP (it doesn't seem to be a driver).
Even Intel doesn't provide a driver for this... -
It's listed in the drivers thread for these units:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=404164
I'd say it's likely to work. I'll give it a whirl once I've got everything setup on my new SSD OS partition. Just got an new 60gb OCZ Agility installed--soooooo much faster -
I know this list and this download but since turbo boost doesn't need a driver to work and even Intel doesn't provide so, i'm wondering what is it. I tried to install it like many people but same message for everyone...
-
And if so, please post the link where you buy it from
-
I just bought one of these for $9. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260426846570
It is coming from China, so it might be a week or two until I get it. I'll let everyone know how it works when I receive it. -
It wouldn't work on my laptop because I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate which isn't on the list of supported operating systems.
There is a cool gadget available on the Intel site that demonstrates turboboost in action by animating the variations of CPU mhz on a graph. My Core i7-820qm generally runs at 2.0 to 2.6 Mhz while I'm working on the laptop. -
I don't think, there are drivers, apps or anything working with a selective version of Windows 7.
I mean, when something is working on Windows 7, is working on all versions (Home, Pro, Ultimate).
I'm not talking about x86 or x64 off course. -
It's not that the drivers won't work on Ultimate, its that the install program won't recognize Ultimate. Here's the list of compatible products from HP's download page for the TurboBoost technology:
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (32-bit)
If you'll notice, Windows Ultimate is not on it. When I tried to install, I get the "unsupported operating system" error. -
You got totally ripped off. They have HDx18 covers on ebay for $3.60 shipped--which I'll add, is what I paid this morning
-
link?
-
I would be interested in a link as well. I have 2 DV8's and may buy another cover after I get my first one. I searched for HP keyboard cover in completed listings on EBay and didn't see any that sold for $3.60 today. http://completed.shop.ebay.com/i.html?LH_Complete=1&_kw=HP&_kw=keyboard&_kw=cover
-
Ehh... posting a link to a private seller on a public forum like this is usually seen as "shameless self-promotion," since I can't prove it's not me. I'll PM you both the one that I got.
-
Well I had to send my HDX18 in for repair and HP tried to pull a fast one by sending me a refurbished laptop as I had certain things on mine which were not on it when it came back and some damage that was not there when I sent it back. Thanks ot the forum I took vid and pics and when I got the laptop back in a damaged shipping carton and spoke to a case mgr and advise I am at the end of my waranty and do not want to get stuck with a laptop which is not the one I sent them they did over th closet replacement the Dv8 Quad. When we went spec for spec on my original HDX which I thought was awesome I will get a nw laptop with a new warranty and a few upgrades that I did not have on the HDX. From what I have read so far people are liking the Dv8. I am hoping I will too. I will post the specs when I have more time. I did the 640g hard drive 2x320 7200rpm and the quad core process and 6gb of 3dimms ddr memory so that is already better than what I had on my HDX and the 1gb graphic card. So I think I will have a great laptop when it gets here. I was told at this point th bluray drives are on backorder and may take up to 2 weeks for them to get but I can wait. So from what I have been told this is a redesigned HDX which when I asked why they do not make it anymore she was not able to answer but did advise this was the replacement with a few more perks than the HDX. I will miss my HDX but looking for to try out the new Dv8 and Windows 7 64bit which I had Vista 64bit prior. I will keep you all posted. I will say that HP support was on target this time as I had major issues getting my Dell Studio 17 return as I had rec'd two defective unit which they tried to stick me with the second on but Better Bus Bureau, Consumer Affairs aided me in getting my money back to buy a an HP. So far I have to say I am impressed with HP. I have a snag or two with them but go through the proper change most have been resolved. Thanks to a great website and awesome people!

its 2 dimm not 3 dimm for the ram
$100 OFF! 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
More memory can speed up your PC, especially when running multiple applications -
It would be really nice if HP would do what all the other laptop manufactures are doing, upgrading the g-cards to 300 seres. Hopefully a 340 or better.
-
the ssd is a upgrade, but yes, that is the only differences I have noticed between the two.
I haven't had any problems, but yet I've only had it for a couple weeks now. It doesn't show any signs of wear yet.
I agree, I hope they do it within my 21 days so I can return this and get the upgraded card.
-
Yeah I agree. I don't see why the dv6t and dv7t quads get GT320s and we have the GT230
-
How does anyone upgrade the GPU? Aren't they fixed on laptops like the HDX18 and the DV8? I'd love to replace the 9600M on my HDX18 for a 300 series (or even a 230) but I've been told it can't be done.
-
It's possible if you've got the cash and the patience--they aren't soldered down like the CPUs (in some cases), but it's really cost prohibitive and your selection of swaps are always thin. If you really want a laptop you can build around and upgrade for a few years, you'll have to consider one of those expensive quasi-notebooks that Alienware used to be famous for.
Even when you CAN swap cards within a particular line, it's always a pain in the butt to get to--you'll often have to disassemble down to the underside of the motherboard, and that's no small trick to do if you don't have an assembly guide (thankfully, HP/Compaqs are pretty much universally documented). It'd make a neat little (expensive) project--but in all cases you're always better off selling your current laptop and trading up for the card you're interested in. -
Hey guys... I just ordered my dv8 and I have a few quick questions...
1) Is there a full size bluetooth mouse out there? I'm doing graphic design and have large hands. Right now my choice for a wireless mouse would be the Logitech Performance Mouse MX. The small USB transceiver is not a big deal, but I'd rather not use one if it's possible.
2) I got the 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M option. With this set-up what is the maximum screen resolution available with an external monitor?
Thanks! -
For those DV8t members who have attempted a clean install of Win7 and found the Official HP Driver page lacking... or have instead installed the latest drivers for the system in this thread, I recommend you take a look at this post I just threw up:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5824136&postcount=717
I wasted a good chunk of today getting everything working, and hopefully others will be able to make use of it--because dv8t owners seem to be voicing the same problems over and over. -
They can be upgraded. It takes serious time though. First thing you need to do is find out the MXM version (special pci-e for laptops) of your card (probably 2.0) then find a card with the same mxm (expensive) and swap it out. if the bios supports it, your golden; if not you will need to get a modded bios.

I have a question, I want to order this laptop in the next few months but I don't live in the US so I would use an international credit card. I know that you can only use an US credit card but I've heard that some companies don't even look at the billing address you put. I do have a sister that is studying in the US so the shipping wouldn't be a problem. Also my dad's credit card is linked to my sister's address in the US (her address is registered in the bank) and she already used my dad's card to buy an Ipod at the Apple Online Store, which supposedly does not accept international cards so I have hope. Has anyone tried this at hp.com? Does anyone know if I can use a verified paypal account with an international credit card? I've heard that I can.
Also I have some questions about the laptop. Does anyone know if the graphics card is going to be updated to the new 300m series in the next few months? That would be better than the 230m gt. I was also thinking of getting the HDTV Tuner but I don't have a clue if it works well. -
Just 3 pages before, i posted many things to warn people about most of the issues you got with Digital persona, graphics drivers, etc.

You installed a wrong version of HP tone.
Reinstal the one from the HP support page.
Or try this one :
http://www.mediafire.com/file/jx4zmh...oneControl.rar -
i installed the one from the hp site but i has the problem
and ur link >> Invalid or Deleted File -
As stated before. For the fans: Go to the bios, reset to the defaults and save.
