The new HPdv8000z with the 17" screen and turion processor is finally on their site, starting at just under 1100 dollars. Looks interesting. If it had been ready a couple of weeks ago I'd have seriously considered it...

Did you get an email today too? It has been on the website since the 8th. I am most interested in the 2 HD's and numeric keypad.
Only problem, Dell's 9300 is consistently $200 cheaper, similarly configured. Assuming a deal of course. Does HP send out email deals?

I don't think HP does it like Dell.

I really like the dv8000z, it's a great multimedia, non-gaming 17". It would be nice if it had an internal TV tuner though. Dual hard drives are cool, I wonder if it is possible to set them up in a RAID array...probably not. Did you know that it can get over 4-hours of battery life? That is amazing, especially considering that it is such a big notebook.
The MSI looks like a killer combo. -
I was really dissapointed that the dv8000 series didn't come with a dedicated GPU
I really hope HP gets some brains and puts in an option for a dedicated GPU in all of their notebooks!!! If they put in the X700 in the dv4000, there's still hope for the dv8000, maybe even the dv1000!!

I think it is possible that HP might add a dedicated card to their dv8000z, because as you said, they did it to the dv4000.
But, there is one thing that I have noticed about HP, and I can't help think that Intel has a part in this - HP hasn't produced an AMD-based notebook with a decent GPU to date. If you look at the Intel side of things however, you'll see how they have all the nice GPU's.
For example, I used to own an HP zv5000z with the AMD64. The only video cards offered with that were the GeForce 4 Go, 32 and 64MB versions. Those cards were quite terrible, one of the reasons I upgraded my notebook. On the flip side, the zv5000 featured the Pentium 4, with Radeon 9200 (64MB) and 9600 (128MB) cards, which were far superior to those offered in the AMD. And it continues today. The zv6000 series still has a sub-par GPU. Anybody else think what I'm thinking? -
I quite agree. My old Satellite has the Nvidia GeForce4 440 Go (32MB), but thats not bad for an almost 4 year old notebook. I think that Intel has some sort of a monopoly over the notebook industry for some reason. Maybe if notebook manufactures began putting decent GPUs in AMD notebooks, Intel might embargo that company of its products (??? just a thought; as there aren't many notebook makers out there that support AMD, this may be a possible reason). However, other notebook makers like Acer can churn out the Ferrari, which is a pretty nice notebook IMO, but overpriced. Acer turns out decent enough notebooks that support both companies, so I think that it's perfectly possible for other manufactures to do the same thing. I still cannot understand why most notebook makers short-change their AMD merchandise

I'm sure that HP knows that if they put a decent GPU in the zv6000, it will selll like hot cakes. But, as you said, Intel has some sort of grip on HP...
I would have bought the zv6000 if it had an X700. -
Yeah, that's my only gripe about my zv6000, the GPU. I mean, the X200M is an O.K. GPU, but would've at least liked to see an X300. I might unload this on E-Bay sometime later this year....
HP dv8000 w/ turion finally out
