I made all my backups and the SWSetup disc...
I also checked for any windows or bios updates....
any ideas?

should not be a problem, because i used a 2002 windows xp media center edition and it worked out fine, just make sure you turn off the native sata before starting. -
the swsetup folder is massive about 3.5gbs
probraly be better to tell us what files you need first -
Goodluck. -
Are you guys aware that all of the drivers are available for download from hp's website? Also, has anyone tried using the F6 option and using the driver diskette's for the sata controller?
I am still waiting for my BTO 8000 to come, but this seems like way too much of a hassle for a reload. And I don't know if this helps, but on my dv1000 I could not reinstall quickplay unless I deleted the existing partition and left it as empty space, then the QP install creates and formats the partition appropriately. -
It would appear that all the drivers are on the hp.com site, but that's not the case. A few of the software/drivers are missing, and can ONLY be found in the C:\SwSetup folder. Plus, a couple of those on the site don't even work properly.. namely, the Storage Matrix software/drivers. Plus, the SATA drivers are on the web site, but REQUIRE a floppy to unpack..completely ridiculous.
F6 to load additional drivers only works if you have a floppy drive, which the dv8000t does not have. Microsoft fixed this in Windows Vista.. Vista will actually search CDs/DVDs, and even USB flash drives. -
I have a usb floppy, and I am curious to see if the native sata support needs to be disabled when doing the F6 option at install. I will try it when my unit gets here hopefully by friday. I can't wait.
-
I just did the reinstall and everything worked great.
I only have one question. Did anyone look at the device manager before they did the format and compare it after the format? I just wanted to make sure that we have all the correct drivers installed. -
Hey overclock.. no offense, but did you try following the guide I posted? It's been proven to work. Most of us now have Windows installed with ZERO issues, and Media Center working completely. A few things to note:
#1, nLite is not necessary and in this context it's a waste of time. Just disable SATA in the BIOS as I noted, install XP, then once you have the SATA drivers installed in Windows properly, boot into the BIOS and enable native SATA again.
#2, in your SwSetup folder list, you forgot the 1UAA folder which is crucial.
Play it safe.. follow the instructions on page 1. -
followed this for my DV2000T, worked like a charm.
thank you for this guide, i would have been punching myself in the face repeatedly if it wasnt for this thread! -
dv1000t owner here..this guide works perfectly!!
thanks Mdesigner!! -
No prob, glad it helps!
By the way, anyone else noticed this oddity: whenever I launch an app using the QuickLaunch buttons, the app launched always shows up BEHIND other windows?? This especially sucks with launching Media Center, because the Windows taskbar appears on top of Media Center. -
After the reinstallation, I can't seem to run the QuickPlay without booting Windows. Does anyone know how to fix this??
-
Thanks MDesigner. I was hesitant in doing the clean windows installation but your instructions were super clear and easy to follow (even for a noob).
I have a question, after doing the clean installation I noticed that the battery/power taskbar icon wasn't there anymore. Does anyone know where do I go to reinstall this? Thanks! -
--> advanced --> always show icon on the taskbar..
it should appear then.. -
-
Do you guys know how to get the lightscribe software installed after a format?
-
I couldn't figure that one out. The LightScribe software in SwSetup doesn't seem to do anything.. it gives no messages or other feedback. I went to nero.com and downloaded the LightScribe Host Software from them.. installed it, then installed Nero. I still didn't notice any options in Nero Express for LightScribe.
Anyone? -
Hi MDesigner, and others who have successfully reformatted & reinstalled their machines:
I have a new dv2000t with a 60GB SATA drive and a DVD/CD-RW drive, and I followed steps (1)-(4), but I get a BSOD during step (4) after I reboot with "SATA Native Support" disabled while WinXP Pro Setup is loading.
The question that I have for people who've had success:
Which version of WinXP Pro was used? The original WinXP Pro, or the WinXP Pro with SP2 that was released later? -- I am using the original version of the WinXP Pro CD that I have.
Can someone provide an insight because I can't even get started with Setup at this point (I get a BSOD -- Stop 0x00000007 -- something about a pci.sys error that causes this) ?
Any help that you can provide is very much appreciated.
Thanks! -
Everything was working fine after the clean installation of xp pro but after a few software installations, i got the blue screen. anyone else have this problem? also, how do I get the bluetooth taskbar icon? Thanks!
Edit: Ok, got the bluetooth icon back from SwSetup.
The blue screen that I get says "An attempt was made to execute non-executable memory". I have no clue what to do now. It tells me to check the newly installed hardware or software and to go into bios to disable memory options such as caching and shadowing. No clue what to do.

I too noticed the missing Bluetooth icon. I forgot what I did to get it back. One of the folders in SwSetup I think, if you run it, it will install the Bluetooth software.
-
I accidentally deleted my quickplay partition...although I don't really care to omuch about quickplay, is it possible to get it back with the recovery discs I made? Do they just restore everythnig to factory state?
-
found out what was causing the BSOD earlier on my system.
If you are installing XP Pro, make sure that you are using the Win XP Pro + SP2 integrated disk. (I was using the XP Pro RTM CD, and it does not have updated drivers for the newer hardware, and would crash).
Hope this helps others who may be encountering this.
Thanks! -

Does anyone mind putting up his/her HPQDP file from SWSETUP folder.
for some reasons, my dv1000t doesnt have that file? I can't run the quickplay directplay after i reinstall my lappie, which is working great
Thanks -
I just received a dv8305us yesterday and would like to do a reformat on the HD. It comes with Media Center 2005 loaded onto it.
I downloaded copies of the MC 2005 CDs, but it won't accept the product key that is underneath the laptop. Is there anyway to force it so I can still have a legitimate Windows setup or am I out of luck? -
Hi,
I read the guide and it is great but one quetion i have is I dleleted the swsetup folder (I know bad idea now LOL) but I did do something that I thing will be ok anyway. I have a program that copied all the drivers into a separate folder with access to all the drivers for later use if needed. My question is will that be the same thing then like the swsetup folder?
If not could I do a reinstall using the hp system recovery and then wont the swsetup folder reappear?
Thanks

Help!! I still have an "Unknown Device" icon on my device manager for my dv8000t, and I can't figure out for the life of me what I'm missing!!
I've attached an image of all my devices... please, someone, anyone, who has a dv8000t, let me know what I'm missing -- and even if you can't, please attach a screenshot of what your device list is! Please~~~

I still haven't solved it, but here's a little more info:
The "Unknown Device" has a hardwareID of "acpi\hpq0006". The ACPI part tells me that it is power-management related, and the HPQ part tells me it is HP/Compaq-related (HPQ is their new ticker symbol on NYSE). However, knowing that is an HP power-management device doesn't help me locate where the drivers for it may be. Somebody, please help me! -
-
Yeah, I thought HPQ0006 was for Quick Launch too (a driver database even associates the two here), except Quick Launch is already installed (see the picture attached in the previous post). The device that is called "Quick Launch Buttons" is listed under Keyboards and has hardwareId acpi\pnp0303 ... so, I'm at a loss. If I force hpq0006 to pick up the same drivers as pnp0303, it doesn't work (exclaimation mark), even if I uninistall pnp0303. So, given that the "real" Quick Launch Buttons device on my laptop is pnp0303, then what on earth could hpq0006 be?? What is the hardwareId of Quick Launch Buttons on your laptop? And is it listed under keyboards with a keyboard icon or under "human interface" with a collage icon?

Can somebody post a screenshot of their device manager? Please expand all the relevent categories in device manager (at least the 'keyboard' and 'human interface' categories). Also post the hardwareId (right click device->properties->details->hardwareId) for any devices in keyboards or human interface...
Much obliged! -
Woohoo!!! I fixed it!! The crappy c:\swsetup came with Quick Launch Buttons 5.x, and that doesn't seem to work on the new dv8000t, and even the HP Driver page for dv8000t only lists 5.x, however when I went to opendrivers and searched for Quick Launch Buttons, I found a 6.00 D version, and that works!! Man, I can't believe HP doesn't even know which version of QLB works with their laptops. This totally ruined my weekend! (I didn't sleep last night, googling for solutions and installing/uninstalling/reinstalling randomly).
Last edited by a moderator: Feb 2, 2015 -
fyi -- for others who might be curious, you can't upgrade QLB -- you have to uninstall 5.x first, then install 6.x. The HPQ0006 device became a "HID-compliant device" instead of "Unknown Device", and the PNP0303 device became "HP Quick Launch Buttons" instead of "Quick Launch Buttons" (i.e. 'HP' was added). Plus, instead of just appearing under the keyboards category, both of them appear under BOTH under the keyboards category and under the Human Interface Devices category (i.e. 4 entries in Device Manager, but only 2 hardwareIds: HPQ0006 and PNP0303). Phew.

Has anyone had luck with the quickplay 2.0 after a clean install? If you have not had any luck let me know I did a complete clean install just now on my dv8000t and got the quick play 2.0 to work perfectly. Perhaps I can be some assitance if you need it.

anirudhn,
I found quick play 2.0 on the internet (thanks to superman23 for the file location) and burned the image onto a cd. I then installed xp with media edition 05 and got all the drivers installed first.
THen I went to disk managment and made sure that I had 1gb of unallocated space. I created a restore point before I installed it. I put in the cd for quick play 2.0 and ran the setup on it. Took about 2 to 3 minutes to fully install but it did install fine. I put in a dvd and rebooted the computer. It went into quick play. I exited quick play and then the system rebooted to xp.
I turned off the computer with the dvd in tray still. I then pushed the dvd button on the system and it booted into quick play without issue.
so in summary, I installed xp and made sure I formatted the whole entire drive minus 1028 unallocated space. (not sure if this will matter but I did a full format not a quick format). Then I finished the xp install and then did drivers and any software I needed then I created the restore point and then I installed the quick play 2.0.
I have really only one issue and maybe someone could help me. I thought I had everything working until i tried to lower the volume on the laptop via the volume buttons on the keyboard. All my quickplay buttons (calculator, dvd, quick play while in xp) all work but the decrease and increaser volume plus the mute button does not work. Actually, I can only lower the volume via full controls and must lower the wave audio. The volume buttons do work in quickplay direct. I am able to increase and decrease the volume only in there. If I try to increase or decrease or mute while in XP It does not work. If I single click on the volume icon in the system tray the master volume bar comes up. My sound will not increase or deecrease using it. I have to double click on the volume icon in the tray and have to lower or move the bar up to increase the volume in the WAVE audio bar. THe master volume does not even work. Any ideas?
Scott -
Thanks a lot ScottM! I will try that asap!!
As for your volume control issues, I think it has something to do with your Audio drivers as well as HP Quick Launch Buttons drivers. Have you installed the correct audio drivers? I think you need to install Microsoft's HD Audio driver and then the Conexant audio driver. Also, make sure you have the version 6.x of HP's Quick Launch Buttons software. -
No problem. Hope it works for you.
You are correct I did not have the correct drivers for audio after I did hd audio. I forgot to add the Conexant audio drivers. After I did that all is working perfect now. The reinstall is now considered complete and a success.
Let me know if you need any more instance.

I have a 2000t and I was successful up to this step:
- Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 27DF
- Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller (!)
- Intel(R) 82801GBM/GHM (UCH7-M Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller - 27C4
- Primary IDE Channel
- Secondary IDE Channel
Does anyone know where I'm going wrong?
Thanks -
What's up with the UCH7 family drivers? Those shouldn't be there.

I just effectively ruined my night... I backed up my swsetup to my external hard drive... then just now when I went to start my XP installation over again, I deleted the partition from my external. So not only did I lose swsetup, I lost 300gb of backups from my desktop and other laptop...
Is there any way to get that data back? I simply told the XP install CD to delete the partition, it didn't format my external. Can I somehow tell XP to recognize the drive again? And if I really lost all that data forever, if I use the recovery CDs, will I get swsetup back? -
I'll let someone else jump in since I know nothing about data recovery. I'm pretty sure there's a way to recover your files.
-
Disaster averted. Partition magic was able to recover my partition. Sorry for hijacking the thread. Back to the subject at hand...anyone know what the deal with my driver issue is?

ScottM / MDesigner,
I am going to do a clean install now. Just a few questions:
1. I have QuickPlay v. 2.1 in the SWSETUP folder (it's 609 MB). Will it work if I just burned the folder onto a CD? Or does the CD have to be a bootable CD? I am not sure if I should go for an older version (v 2.0 from Superman23).
2. Last time I tried the clean install, everything went well except QuickPlay. When I rebooted the laptop, the System Properties > General tab (which we get after right-clicking My Computer and selecting Properties), showed only 256 MB RAM. Other info such as HP logo, processor name and speed etc. were also missing. Is there a way to restore this info? -
Ok, after struggling all day, I'm finally up and running, here's what happened:
I showed two Primary IDE Channels in Device Manager. Initially I tried updating the driver on the first one and rebooting with native SATA support DISABLED. BSOD.
I rolled everything back and updated the driver on the second one and rebooted with native SATA support disabled. Windows.
I then rebooted with SATA support ENABLED. BSOD.
The key to success was updating the driver on the FIRST primary IDE channel and rebooting with SATA support ENABLED. That's what your guide says, but I was under the impression that I should be able to boot with it both ENABLED and DISABLED if I had the correct driver installed. This is apparently not the case. Make sure to ENABLE native SATA support immediately after installing the driver.
