Hi gang... I just joined the forum and was curious about your knowledge of issues with the HP dv8309us.

I bought mine two years ago and I have the full extended warranty

It is timely for me as I am preparing to send it in for some issues...

The DVD burner in fact doesn't burn DVDs - though the specs call for it... I found a forum (which I cannot find now) that stated that due to high demand for these and sourcing of components, HP had issues and were throwing just about any sort of drives in to get them out the door. Heard anything like this?

For a media machine w/Altec Lansing speakers, the sound is very low volume for most DVD movies... any way to boost the sound besides external speakers...

I also find the multimedia software which automatically fires up frustrating. I don't like it... Is it me or is it that bad???

I assume my hard drive will get wiped while its out getting fixed... Best way to back up? carbonite?

    thanks in advance...
