Hi I am buying a dv9000 but I was wondering wether to get the tv-tuner or not. Can I use the tv-tuner in europe (ntsc/pal) or is it useless in europe? HP really does not give any information. I do want to hook it up to my cable.
My question is this tv-tuner a good buy and what are the experiences with it?

As far as I know, you can watch TV anywhere in the world, provided you have cable. I would definately take a TV tuner if I buy 17'' notebook.
-
You will probably have to contact HP on that or find someone here who has this and can tell. some tv tuners might support multi systems but some may only support the country in which they were purchased.

I believe it can accept NTSC or PAL. In Media Center, you set up which type of signal to accept, and you can select which region you are in. If you are using the antenna you can choose to accept analog or digital broadcasts.
I'm not 100% certain, but i'm pretty damn sure it should work in a PAL region no problem. -
So I finally got a reply from HP with an apology for the delay
. So if anybody is interested this is what they say:
I regret to inform that the HP Expresscard TV Tuner Card will only work in USA with NTSC signal. You have to use DVB-T card to use PAL when you move to Europe, which can be purchased from any computer store in Europe.
Guess I have to buy one in europe. -
On a related topic I noticed that HP sells two different Express Card TV tuner versions, one for MCE and one for VISTA. The Refurb DV9033cl I have coming is loaded with MCE and has a TV tuner. I wonder if it will still work when I upgrade to Vista? Any ideas?

It will still work, but it's not digital. Won't receive any HD signals if you are interested in that.
