HP dv9000 Not powering up

Hello, hopefully some of you all can help me out here.
To make a long story short, I had a dv9000 with the burned out GPU issue. I fixed that (burned the GPU with a hand torch and made a connection with the motherboard), plugged up the ram, hard drive, and battery and turned on the computer. Everything booted up to the login screen perfectly. I partially reassembled everything and decided to test it out to make sure it still worked. Now when I press the power button, the lcd right next to it comes on for half a second and that's it. Major buzz kill.

At any rate, I assumed that since the power light comes on that power is making it through the motherboard and ribbon. After that, I'm lost.
Any help is appreciated.

 

it sound like the GPU died for good..because if you were able to get it to work reheating the gpu and it worked for a little bit.

 

The only thing you can do at this point is try the reflow again or get a new mobo - otherwise it's probably done for.

 

Try ebay for the mobo, the are not as expensive as you think. Just be sure to get the exact same one, the part number is written on a sticker under the two RAM slots

 

Be careful searching ebay for motherboards, 99% of the ones under $50 will be with dead GPU's

It seems strange to me that it's still the gpu being the problem. When the GPU was shot before, the laptop would atleast power up for about 5 sec with the fan and harddrive spinning. Now nothing moves. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try the reflow again, at least I'll get to play with fire again.

Somewhere else I was reading suggested that this might be a build up of static in the mobo. Their suggestion was to told the power button for about 30 sec with the battery off and unplugged. So far it hasn't worked. Any comments or info on that idea?

 

I would highly doubt static causing the mobo to die(but I guess it isn't impossible). In order to drain the static electricity you would need to touch a metal part of the mobo while either having a antistatic band on or while touching something metal like the laptops chassis or something in your house. In all honesty I'm guessing the gpu is fried to the point where even a reflow might not fix it, but any free solutions should always be tried before spending money on something new

 

Are you sure that you cleaned all the thermal grease, put new thermal grease and fastened the fan properly? If you haven't you might have burnt your cpu. Also if you do get a MB from eBay, make sure that the seller gives you at least 30 days warranty preferably 90. I know that 30 days sounds very short but I have had a good experience with motherboards from ebay. I have been using a MB for my dv6700t bought from ebay with a 14 day guarantee, which is still working great after about 9 months of heavy usage (I keep the dv6700 as a desktop replacement since I did not want to sell it and it does not get powered down for weeks at a time and I do cpu and gpu demanding tasks regularly on it) and I have changed a couple of MBs for customers and I had one complaint but I cant be sure he installed it correctly since he insisted that he installs it himself (poor ******* wanted to save 40 quid and ended up paying 120 more)
