I have just bought this machine and it is good, I have to admit, but I do have one issue with it.
The touchpad keeps sending the point to the top right of my screen...I can't make it do it consistently, but it happens very very often and it is irritating, usually on tapping.
I have tried looking at the setting for the touchpad, but none seems relevant to this particular issue...does anyone have any tips they would be willing to give me, please?

You can try reinstalling the drivers but I doubt that will have any effect. I would just use a wireless mouse, it sounds like your touchpad itself is faulty.
If you bought it in a store just ask to exchange it for another. -
Go to Control Panel-Mouse-Pointer Settings
Do you have the "Automatically move pointer to default button in dialog box" checked? If so, uncheck it.
If that isn't the problem, the I too would suggest a complete uninstall and then reinstall of the mouse. -
Thanks chienne - the box is not checked.
Reinstalling the driver is an option, but the machine was reset to factory settings just days ago (on the day of purchase), so unless there was a glitch there, or the driver needs updating (which I guess is likely, but I couldn't find a similar problem by searching the forum), then I was leaning to the issue being a hardware issue, like airman.
Thank you to you both for your contributions.

You should make sure you have the latest drivers after you did a refresh -
Pollik,
Sounds like you have exactly the same problem as I did.
Basically, from time to time, when I tap the pad (to do a "click") mouse pointer would jump up the screen.
After several calls to HP and reinstallations tech support admitted that the pad was faulty.
After that I simply returned the notebook to Costco (with the case number) and few months later ordered a new one. So now, after few weeks usage - no "jumping" at all. Me pleased. -
Once again, thank you for responses.
I took the machine back to shop (there was quite of long list of things they did wrong and I had to go back anyway) and mentioned the problem. They had a techie look at straight away, in front of me. I watched him for 10 minutes and he never once got the fault. I get it home and the fault is still very much in evidence for me. Oddly, if I am concentrating on tapping the pad, I can't make the fault happen either, it seems to only happen when my hands and fingers are working on autopilot.
Haven't had a chance to do update the drivers yet...it has been a busy week.
