    HP dv9000 screen flashes on / off.

    So my hp dv9000 has been working great for the last 2 years that ive had it. Just recently the screen started flashing on and off after the computer loads up and slowed down a lot. Every 5 seconds or so the screen just turns off and stays off for 2-3 seconds then comes back on and continues that process over and over. I didn't move the laptop or drop it in anyway before this started happening. What would be the cause of this problem and how can i fix it? Its warranty ran out last year.

    It also dosn't display anything prior to the post screen coming up showing my desktop with icons. The screen is just gray. I tried restarting it into safemode using msconfig and safeboot but when it restarted the screen was just grey with a hazy outline across the screen and could see where it said windows is now shutting down..

    Even if your product number is not listed argue your case passionately and make them pay for their faults. I suppose you have the Go 7600, isn't it?

    It should be the 7600 yea. I just called a place that does local hp repair and they said if its the actual screen itself it could be $1,600 to repair...

    1600 dollars!!! That is more than a brand new HP notebook. Just explain your case to any of the tech support staff mentioning the fact that these cards are failing globally after 1-1.5 yrs and frying up. The biggest problem is if the GPU is the culprit, then you have to replace the entire motherboard. It all depends on your persuasive skill to obtain a free replacement.

    Well i guess my skill wasn't good enough. The person i talked to said they were taking dv9000's back except only ones with the amd processors, and since mine was intel it didn't meet their requirments. Even though i said it was obviously there issue of the gpu failing he didn't offer me any compensation.

    Now when i try to boot up the led lights come on and the laptop sounds like its starting, but there is no image at all on the screen. It went from going to post load up showing the desktop icons and just flashing on / off, to starting up as a grey screen with hazy outlines, to now not showing any image at all.

    Well if HP has informed you of their decision, it is upto you what you do next. Whether you want to pursue the case further, or want to think of going for repairs it is upto you. But the cash they are charging to fix it is more than the price of its premium dv7t.

    Have you tried using an external monitor? This probably isnt the case but its best you check anyway.

    call the tech again and asked for a phone number for a case manager. talk to that person. explain it the way you read above: global problem!
    and 1600 is a total rip off! I would stay away from that shop.

    Just thought id write a final update. I just got a diagnosis and they said it was in fact the gpu that burned out. It also messed up the 'northbridge' he called it. So now i just have a dead laptop, and hp refused to fix it, i might try calling back and talking to someone higher up, but it looks like there isn't much i can do. What was quoted to fix it with parts i could buy a new laptop for so its north worth it.

    If you paid for it with a credit card, all on the same card, you can try filing a claim with your credit card company as they may have extended the warranty on it. More info here , check the credit card warranty section. I just recently did it with my Gateway CX210X, and got a full refund back. Took almost a month to get it done, but was worth it imo.
