well occasionally my dv9000 just stops responding, it happened all the time when I had norton antivirus on it but it just happens randomly now. removed norton to check if that was the issue but it wasnt (at least not all of it) It basically just sits there, cant open programs or anything and at times the fan runs real high. sometimes keyboard buttons like the caps lock still light up but nothing else pretty much works. tried checking the disk many times and this is where another problem comes into play, it takes AGES to check especially when checking for FREE space (part 5 of 5). have checked integrity of disk (from HP BIOS and SMART) and its fine, no problems and have reinstalled/formatted Windows but issue is still there. any suggestions? maybe bad install in the recovery partition?

The first thing I'd do is burn and boot MemTest86+ to help rule out memory problems. Also, make sure nothing is blocking the fan intake under your notebook. See what Core Temp says your CPU temps are, anything below 60C is normal, much above that might be a problem. Is this a dv9000z or dv9000t (AMD or Intel)? Integrated GPU or GeForce 7600?
-
Its a dv9081ea which is intel C2D 2ghz Go 7600 2gb RAM 2 x 120gb disks
temps seem fine, they get to about 50-59 when running 100% and nothing blocking the fan as far as i can see.
will run memtest soon to see
cheers -
Hmm well memtest appears to have no problems.......

What's your GPU temp?
-
GPU temp varies between about 55 to 62, usually around 59 or 60. this is idle of course, under load i dunno nothing over 80 i think if i ALT+TAB and check while running a game. but the problem never happens when running a game anyways.

I'm stumped. The only thing I can think of trying is a clean installation of Windows, you'll have to make a Windows installation DVD as described here. Might as well integrate RyanVM's Post-SP2 Update Pack into that while you're at it. Follow the Backup Activation Method here to save yourself the nuisance of reactivating Windows.
Anyone have any better ideas? -
lol yeah im stumped too. happened to me overnight today, woke up PC just wudnt do anything, not fully frozen but yeah non responsive. Ive had similar experiences where the issue was a bad install so maybe thats it or maybe even the issue is installing from the FAT32 partition.....who knows....
