My brother and I have the same laptop, the dv9005us. Before, he had the good one, and I had the crappy one with the broken hinge and split bezel..

NOW, his laptop won't turn on.
We've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the power, taking out the battery, and holding down the power button for a long time.
    It still doesn't turn on.

He uses it for ~10 hours a day, had it for a year and three months now.
A few minutes ago, he had it plugged in and it sporadically shut down and won't turn on anymore..

What can we do to fix this?

You'll have to contact HP about that probably, as it sounds like the power system on the notebook blew the motherboard.

Try this just in case I'm wrong:
    1) Remove the AC adapter and battery.
    2) Hold the power button for 60 sec (yes, with no AC or battery)
    3) Insert just the AC adapter
    4) Try turning it on.
    5) If it still doesn't turn on, insert battery too.
    6) Try turning it on.
    7) Still doesn't work? Call HP.

Sweet! I was hoping that would do it, but I was worried in your case it wouldn't. Good to hear!
