When my dv9500 is closed, it the left and right side does not close tight to the base. I can push it down on both sides. The rubber bumper only touches when I push it down. The center where the latch is location is real snug. Is this normal?

Mine seems to fit a bit more snug than what youre describing but its far from tight.

When you pick yours up and look in the space between the base and lid, do your round bumpers in the top touch the bottom or do you see a space between the buttom and the base. I have about an 1/8 inch space. I have a little less space between the rectanular bumpers.

I can not tell if it the design so the computer can be opened with ease. I know I have had other notebooks that took two hands to open, where this one can be opened with two fingers on one hand with ease.

It's same here and I think it's a good thing as you can actually open the lid with one hand.
