Circuit City has the dv9429us with the 2.2ghz AMD, 200gb hd, 2gb ram, etc for $949.

Costco meanwhile has the dv9543cl with the 2ghz Intel, 320gb hd, 2gb ram, etc for $1299 on coupon starting 8/20. ( http://www.costco.com/images/content/misc/PDF/11203300_dv9543cl.pdf)

As a non-gamer, can someone explain to me what the advantages of the dv9543cl would be over the dv9429us? My uses of the computer are mainly surfing the net, watching downloaded movies, and some light Photoshop type stuff.

From what I understand the Intel has better battery life and maybe runs cooler? Other than that, these machines look pretty similar. I don't think I'd notice a difference between the 200gb hd and the 320gb hd. I'd rather have a 120gb hd that was 7200rpm to be honest.

    Thanks for the help guys.

u kinda answered your own question, you pay more for the intel but it is gonna be a bit faster, whether that is worth 350 more is up to you. as a non-gamer though you wont need the video card this comes with so find something with the x3100 and you could save more

The benefits as I see it are as follows:

    1. Core 2 Duo Tech vs. AMD 64 Tech - C2D tech is newer and faster in FP (Floating Point) operations.
    2. 4 MB L2 Cache vs. 1 MB L2 Cache - Helps reduce hard drive/RAM accesses, Image editing/optimizing/rendering apps love additional Cache :).
    3. Intel Santa Rosa vs. nVidia Core Logic.
    4. GeForce 8600M GS Discrete Graphics vs. GeForce 6150 Integrated Graphics
    5. 256 MB Dedicated Video RAM vs. Shared sytem RAM.
    6. DX10 vs. DX9 Compliance - Does not matter much if you're not into gaming, but it helps to always have headroom in that department.
    7. Additional Hard Drive space (2x160 Gigs vs. 1x120 Gig+1x80 Gig).
    8. HDMI Port - It might become imporant in the years to come. Also doubles up as a DVI Port with an adequate converter.
    9. Two years vs. One year of Limited Warranty.
    10. Hopefully, a better battery life due to various optimizations that went in for Santa Rosa, also given the higher overall specs.

Personally, I've been addicted to AMD Tech for 10 years now since their price to performance ratio has been unbeatable. Only found Pentium II and Pentium M tech to be the competitor from Intel during that time.

But, times are changing, and so am I :).

Life is all about change right!

The additional premium looks pretty well spent to me :).
