I just ordered a new HP dv9700t with the Intel T9300 CPU, 2 GB (free upgrade), 205 GB HD, ...
HP wanted $300 to uograde to 4 GB and $250 for a second HD. I can buy 4 GB (2x2) for under $100 and a 250 GB HD for about $120 at Newegg.
Questions:
- It has an 800 MHz FSB but comes with PC2-5300 (667 MHz). Can I use 800 MHz memory (PC2-6400) or do I need to use 667 MHz memory?
- Recommeded brands of memory?
- Any brands to stay away from?
- Does this laptop support 3.0 GB/s SATA or do I need to use a 1.5 GB/s (SATA-150) hard drive?
- Does the laptop come with the hard drive bracket in the second empty drive bay? (HP sales could not tell me)
- I want the largest drive for my second drive. Any recommendations?
-
1. Use 667
2. Cheapest one
3. The more expensive ones
5. no
6. I believe the largest is still 320 -
Any suggestions where to get a hard drive bracket for HP dv9700t. HP sales wanted to sell me the entire HD kit for $250. Ouch!!!

Lithus, are you saying that the dv9700t will not make full use of PC2-6400, or are you just recommending against it?
Edit: Nevermind. I just found my answer. It will downclock to 667MHz.
