Blu-ray movies will play on laptop no problem, but when I connect to Laptop using HDMI to my Samsung plasma Hdtv, I get "Protected content, Cannot play protected content" Anyone else running into this problem? I have been online with HP and Samsung none seem to have a logical answer. I have the latest from Quickplay vers. 3.6, one of the reasons I bought this Laptop was the Blu-ray ROM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if repost but I searched the threads and couldn't find anything similar.

    Thanks

I believe that this is a Vista problem. I've heard of it in the past, but I can't recall what exactly is the problem and how to fix it. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I'm sure someone on this forum will know more about it than I do and will be able to help.

May I ask what kind of Hdtv you are using. Mine is a 2006 and is HDCP ready.
I just don't know which direction to go with this.

DSC, Thanks so much for your feedback. I have tried 2 separate HDMI cables, no resolve. Is there a certain class of HDMI i should try and use? One HDMI that I tried was for my Satellite box which works with it and the other one I use for my DVD player? Once again Thanks for the help and if you have information on this I would love to hear it.

been trying to recreat your problem, but with no avail. so lets sttart small...try using the s-video port first, then try a vga connection and after that, then try the hdmi connection. turn the tv off and plug in your hdmi cable. make sure the settings for the tv have the hcdp settings enabled (if you have this) turn the tv on. you should hear a beep from your computer installing the secondary monitor. you never said if it would even let you see your windows desktop.... let me know what all this does, if anything.

    Thanks, Johnksss,

I will try s-video, VGA, and I will unplug the HDMI/DVI from the TV and connect while TV is off. I'll see about the HCDP setting, don't know if TV has one but I'll check. I have connected the laptop to tv and was able to view my computer thru the TV. I never thought of disconnecting and reconnecting while the TV is off. I hsure hope this does it, I really do not feel ilike dealing with Bestbuy over this issue but time is running out.

    Thanks again for your help.

im having the same problem....before i could watch hd dvd's in my tv via hdmi(from laptop to tv) now i can't ... my laptop broke my HDCP protection on my tv because now when i put my hd cable box via hdmi it says the same thing the hd content canot be played on this monitor...blah blah blah...never did that before pluging the laptop to this tv. if anything it's not your laptop but the tv..bring ur laptop to a friend house who have a hdtv with hdmi(HDCP enabled) and i garantee you it will work..try that and post your result!

i checked my tv manual and it says to not plug any kind of computer on it! i guees that's why my HDCP protection is broken!! :(

Make sure that you have the display properties set so your HDTV is the only monitor available when it's connected.

If you are trying to run a multi-display set-up (dual monitor) it messes with the security protection crap thats built into Windows/DVD software & the TV.

big samm Thanks for the info.

May I ask what kind of TV you have? I have a Samsung HP-S4253 Plasma. Sorry to hear that your HDCP is busted. I am hoping that is not my case.

    Thanks again.

    Cool to hear that worked.

As far as the audi - go into the sound properties and change the default output to 'digital output'. You'll have to change it back when you disconnect HDMI.

Another option is using a wired adapter to go from the headphone jack to RCA.

I was thinking about just setting-up a 2nd 'user' on my laptop - so that I would not have to make a bunch of config changes when I plug it into my TV.

    - Now, if you can figure-out how to get the desktop to fit on the hdtv properly (without extending off the screen) PLEASE let me know. I have downloaded & tried the modded drivers that are referenced in other threads... But they do not allow Blu Ray playback. SO - at this point it seems you can either have the laptop set-up to browse on a properly scaled (for HDTV) screen -OR- have it capable of Blu Ray playback. Kinda sucks.

set the screen resolution on the lcd first (same as your tv.... usually something like 1024 x 768), before switching to external hdtv display. see if this helps. and you can do a full screen first, then switch to external display....

Fugibr, I have responded to your pm. Reread this thread. Uniqueflh hit the nail on the head and it worked for me.

Make sure that you have the display properties set so your HDTV is the only monitor available when it's connected.

If you are trying to run a multi-display set-up (dual monitor) it messes with the security protection crap thats built into Windows/DVD software & the TV.

    Good Luck,

after a series of attempts I finally been able to watch the blu ray in my tv. following your precious guidnace. However, It seems that the quality of the picture is not right. I played the movie "kingdon of heaven" and for my surprise, the image was close (if not the same) as an ordinary DVD. I rent the same movie and played in another DVD player simultaneously to compare and I saw no big difference in the quality. checking the notebook screen setting is set for highest, is there anithing I'm not doing? really, I'm very frustated!!!
    PLEASE HELP!!!!
