    Hey all,
I've only had my HP Elitebook 8530w for a few months now and is my first laptop. I love just about everything about it. However: Recently I have had problems with the screen going out on me every so often. It just randomly goes very dark, to the point where it looks like its off, but I can still see VERY slightly whatever I was working on before. Has anyone experienced this and possibly knows what could be going on?
(it just did it again. 3 times in a one hour sitting)
Whatever anyone can suggest would be awesome. I'm not to savvy about laptop hardware and such, so i'm a little ignorant when it comes to troubleshooting this issue, but im learning. : )

I forgot to mention. Here's some specs if that could be helpful.

    Core2 Duo T9550
    15.4" WUXGA
    GFX nVid FX770 512
    RAM 4GB DDR2 2DM
    HDD 250G at 7200rpm
    standard 8 cell battery

    Thanks a lot all,
    Josh

You could try disable the Ambient Light Sensor, but this case sounds more extreme than what the light sensor would do.

If you want to try, I think you press Fn+F11.

First off, I would contact HP, get a case number, and see if they have dealt with this problem before. They may be able to help or repair any faulty parts.

A few suggestions I have to work around the problem for now would be to either

    1. Go into Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options. Click "Change Plan Settings" for whichever power option you are using. Click "Change Advanced Power Settings". Under "Processor Power Management" change the "minimum processor state" to 100%.

    If this does not work...

    2. When the screen goes black try and press the fn f4 key

    If this does not work...

    3. Plug in an external monitor when the screen goes black to see if you are dealing with a backlight problem, or a graphics or connection problem. This will not fix anything, but it will help you troubleshoot where the problem is.

Like I said before though, being that its a few months old and its under warranty I would at the very least call HP and see what they say about your problem. They may have dealt with this before.
