Comparing the specs, it looks like the probook 4420s is great value compared to the elitebook 8440w. the latter costs 70% more !!

If the build quality of the probook is anywhere close to the elitebook, I am puzzled as to why there isnt more attention on the probook.... Just Too NEW???

    What am I missing?

You're missing the fact that HP has irrational pricing for their Elitebooks.

Which two are you comparing? WH293UT vs. FN093UT? From what I can see the 8440w has a faster processor, 9-cell vs. 6-cell battery, a separate video card, and a 3-year warranty vs. 1-year. The 8440w has a fingerprint sensor, not sure that model of the 4420 has it. The 8440w also lists some extra features like SD memory support, secondary battery connection, etc. Memory on the 8440w is expandable by way of 4 slots while the 4420 has only 2, I think (may want to check on that, but I think that's what I recall).

Of course you could get an 8540w for the same price as the 8440w, I think and get a free docking station and USB 3.0 with it as well as a numberpad on the keyboard if you don't mind the size increase.

Thanks for the thoughts. i realize the 8440 has better specs, and indeed i have compared them. It just seem that for the $700 difference, the probook 4420s is an excellent buy

I think the comment that elitebooks carry a BIG (and perhaps irrational) premium is the best explanation

I just wish i could get some hands-on for the 4420
