So I bought the HP Pavilion 6095ea, fantastic spec, beautiful laptop, it arrived on Tuesday... Now the spec clearly states that is a 1.8Ghz dual-core Turion X2, even the box states it... So, imagine my disbelief when I see in "My Computer" that it's actually 1.59Ghz!!!!

    1. What would you guys do, should I return it?
    2. Would HP have just done it on mine or would it be on all 6095ea's?
    3. Why put 1.8 on the box when it's not?

First off, I would recommend checking with another utility like CPU-Z or AMD Dashboard. Both are capable of giving you real time clock speeds. Most likely your CPU is running with Cool n Quiet/Powernow which dynamically alters the cpu speed based on usage. So, you are likely to see different cpu speeds. Windows system properties is not too reliable either. I have had it show all kinds of cpu speeds on my old laptop.

If you want the processor to run at 1.8GHzall the time then just change your power scheme to Always On. This will disable any power saving technologies.

No, just change it in Windows Power option menu.

To access it, Right click on any empty space on your desktop-->Properties-->Screen saver-->Power. Use the drop down menu to change between different schemes.

Were you on battery when you checked? HP often limits max speed while on battery, since it lets them lower the core voltage and significantly lower power consumption.

But like miner said, CPU-Z/etc is much more reliable than My Computer.

I bought a dv9000z Turion 64 x2 with 2.0ghz and I looked under My Computer and it said it was 1.61ghz. I called HP tech support and they said it was "normal."

That is normal, just because XP read Turion stupidly with powernow. CPU-Z and AMD Dash board will help you. If you really want to see "My Computer-->Properties" shows 1.8G, run Prime95 for 1 hr then you will have it. My ML-37 was shown 1.6G all the time in "My Computer-->Properties"

i think you need to download and install the AMD Processor Update... Go to your Software & Driver Download page and install the application.

this happened to me and after i updated the AMD driver, it shows my real Turion X2 speed

Mobile chips throttle themselves down (underclock + undervolt) to conserve battery power. To run at full power all you have to do is:

    1) Right click desktop, click Properties.
    2) Click the Screen Saver tab.
    3) Click on Power button.
    4) Set Power Scheme to Always On. This will disable powernow/coolnquiet. Remember to reset it to Max Battery or Laptop/Portable when you are finished, or else your battery life will suffer.
    5) Click OK on both screens to exit.
    6) Right click My Computer on desktop, click Properties.
    7) Wait a few seconds until the info under Computer refreshes. It should give you the processor type and the processor speed. This info should be accurate.

I'm currently running the laptop via mains power, with battery in my laptop bag... And according to "My Computer", the processor is running at 1.81GHz, so everything is OK!
