    Hello

I am having this problem with the hdd of my HP laptop (nw8240 / py442ea).

Recently i have reinstalled the WXP and after two weeks he says that can not boot because it doesn't find the HDD. Eventually i have set to default the BIOS setting and it worked. The problem is that the OS was responding very slow.

So i decided to reinstall the windows again. All went ok until the process arrived at the format procedure. By now there are 24 hours and still formatting it has reached 86%. I assume that there are some bad sectors and is now trying to repair them. Yesterday evening the format procedure was at 82 % and over the night reached 86%. And the format procedure from 0% until 82 % happened in 7 hours.

Can some one tell me if the HDD is totally damaged or is there a way to repair it with a software or something, or maybe with this format procedure after it ends? The partition i am trying to format is 15Gb.

    Thanks in advance

    cris

never had this befor, you could try going into the bios -> security -> disk sanitiser and format through that, though that completely wipes the harddrive to a state as if it was brand new.

Do a quick format instead of a long one, then after you install Windows run scandisk.
