I have this 52" lcd tv and am toying with the thought of using it as a monitor
with my laptop. Has anyone tried this setup, and if you did, does it funtion well.
    Thanks

several people have been doing this for years. i started doing this on my 42" plasma a few years back. i used a vga cable and used my 42" plasma as a monitor to surf the net, type up homework, etc.

then last april, i got a 50" plasma and i have been using that as an external monitor via hdmi cables. i dont even have a dvd player. i pop dvd's into my laptop and play them on the tv - it's as good as the real deal.

i also have a 7 speaker + sub system connected to my laptop so i literally get home theatre quality picture and sound without having to spend hundreds on dvd players, recievers, speakers, etc etc etc.

my fave thing to do is to play unreal tournament on the 50" plasma via hdmi... the colors and graphics are so crisp and the audio coming through 7 speakers and a sub scares the hell out of me sometimes - it's very realistic :D

ps - if you plan on using hdmi cables, get them from amazon. i think i paid like $1.98 for my cable and $4 for shipping. the cable has worked perfectly for over a year now. don't get ripped off by paying anything more than $10 for it.

oh, and invest in a wireless mouse/keyboard. the combo kits that microsoft/logitech have are quite good and reasonably priced. you can find them at staples locally or online at amazon.

if you have a wireless mouse/keyboard, you simply start the computer and windows detects it. that way, you can turn the machine on and when the log in screen appears, you can use your mouse and keyboard to log in - while looking at your tv.
