I want to reformat my HP dv8000t, but I noticed there's an application that will burn recovery discs (onto 4 DVDs). Do I need to do this first? The only discs I have in the box are the drivers/software for the TV tuner, and the XP Media Center 2005 DVD (software/drivers already on the CD, it says). That's about it. What exactly is burned to these four recovery DVDs?

I would assume the OS is burned...I am supposed to do that on a Compaq computer but wondering how easy and quick the process is. Do they all require DVDs??

The recovery DVDs will allow you to restore your notebook to its original state. It does not burn off an OEM XP CD.

    OK, so:

Recovery DVDs: put my laptop back to the way it was when I got it in the mail (full of bloatware)
OEM XP CD: boot on this sucker & reformat/reinstall, and I have a clean install of XP Media Center.

    Correct?

PS: I assume the stuff in C:\swsetup is the stuff that gets burned if I do the PC Recovery option, right? Just making sure I don't need any of that stuff. I can download drivers/software from hp.com. The only thing I'm wary of losing is the QuickPlay partition and the ability to access it after reformatting.
