Hello all, I recently found the HP nc8430 going for 1475.95 which I thought was a pretty good buy considering it has a 2.0 ghz proc (Core Duo) and WSXGA+ resolution. The hard-drive is only 5400 rpms but that's not such a big deal, right? And it has one of the two video cards that I want my future notebook to have, the ATI x1600. Question is, has anyone ever purchased anything from costcentral.com before? Here's the link:
http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/HP_Compaq_Business_Notebook_nc8430/EY688AAABA/K05246/froogle/
And does the nc8430 have a matte or glossy screen? Thanks in advance.

The nc8430 has a matte screen.
Yes, that is a great deal on the nc8430. See if you can find a similar deal on the nc8430 (RB554UT#ABA) through them...it has a Core 2 Duo and 100GB HDD upgrade, and all the other components are the same. More future proof with the Core 2, if you planning on running Vista that is.
If you can't get a deal on the one I mentioned, then that nc8430 you linked to is a great deal. Just make sure they are legit...anyone know?
EDIT: Here is CostCentral's link to the nc8430 I mentioned. $200 more for Core 2 and 100GB HDD...probably not worth it, but it depends if you need the 64 bit processor. -
Yeah, I saw that model as well and I just couldn't justify the $200 increase. It'd be nice to have a Core 2 Duo proc but I don't plan on purchasing Vista for another year and a half or so (I'll wait until all the bugs are worked out). Thanks for the info though, night.

This is the deal you want! http://www.amuras.com/prodDetail.asp?PartNumber=J96048
I just bought mine yesterday and had it overnighted to me. Everything looks great on it so far. I had no problems with Amuras at all.
The only thing that I dont love is that it doesnt come with a dvd burner. Do you know where I might get one or how much it would be? -
I too am a satisfied Amuras customer, my NC8430 came in yesterday specc'd as listed.
-
Hmm, that Amuras deal is looking pretty sweet but there's no DVD burner installed, I find that weird considering the nc8430 with a 2.0 Ghz proc on the hp website does have one installed. I just don't know whether I should pull the trigger or not. I found some reviews here:
http://www.shopping.com/xMR-Amuras,%20Inc.~MRD-305491~S-1
Only 11 reviews in 2 years, I don't know what to do. Wait and see, I guess. -
I ordered on Sunday, they called me on Tuesday to confirm. They upped my 3day shipping to 2 day shipping without me even asking. They sent me a .pdf invoice that was corrupt (Excel to .pdf, it wasn't opening with Acrobat reader). I emailed them about it and they worked with me for about 4 promptly sent/returned emails before I finally said just print it and mail it. My credit card has been charged for the exact amount. Basically, I'm trying to say these guys are legit and my laptop is sweet.
I buy things online all the time, Amuras went out of their way to make me happy and I didn't even ask. Top class etailer, IMHO.
Amuras can configure laptops, just like you can configure one on the HP site without a burner. There are many model variations.
I'll take the 7200 rpm hard drive and single, 1 GB stick of DDR2 @ 667 over a DVD burner any day (I do have a desktop DVD burner though). -
I have ordered mine Friday from AMURAS, I got today an e-mail confirmation
that the order was shipped. I was very sceptical to order from this company, I will credit djspl for his input. $ 1,299? It is the cheapest price you can find for the nc8430 anywhere! -
Did you have to pay sales tax ordering through AMURUS?
-
I am in California, no I didn't pay sales tax.
-
Just to let you guys know, I got my 8430 from them also. Overnighted it just to make sure that it was all on the up and up. I love it so far(typing on it now) and as soon as i get my camera unpacked I will do a short review.
I would say thought that Amurus was no problem whatsoever. Got to love when you find a deal out of nowhere and it all works out ok. Lots of deals that are to good to be true usually are, but this one turned out ok.
For the money I really think that you cant do any better. Was planning on getting a Z96j but after seeing this deal with the 3 year warrenty and all I just couldnt say no. I mean with xp and the 7200 HD and 1meg 667 ram and 2gig proc!!!!!!! I know, I know, Its not a core duo 2 but still, really glad I jumped on it. -
I'm almost positive now that I'm going to jump on this deal, thank you everyone for your input.

The deal for $1475.95 would be really nice.
Check www.resellerratings.com for that AMURAS website...I never heard of them until about a week ago. -
I just got the $1,700 deal from Cost Central.. I hope I won't regret not having a 7,200 rpm hard drive (but I highly doubt I will, and I can always upgrade that if I really feel I miss the speed)
The DVD burner and 64bit capabilities to me are very important.. and $200 just didn't seem like that much when I was already spending $1,500, 'ya know?
I can't wait to get my nc8430... everyone here seems so thrilled with theirs.. I'm sure I'll love mine too -
sweet...welcome to the club

I got mine from AMURAS, it is brand new with 3 years warranty, I was a bid disappointed that it didn't have the fingerprint reader but I can live without it. I called HP to make sure the serial # was for a new and not a refurbished and it was confirmed that it is for a new notebook.
I have found a return label on the HP box, directed to Insight direct USA. located in Hanover Park Ilinois. My notebook was shipped from the same address.
Conclusion: Insight had a large order by their customer returned to them and because it is a custom configuration the sell it through a second-tier reseller like Amuras. -
I wish someone would make, and then cancel. a large order of C2D HPNC8430.
Wouldn't it be funny if they are re-selling all the notebooks because they have no fingerprint reader?
I think I'm going to take the risk on the Amuras. I would like a C2D, but it's not worth $400. -
gratz, Tamale. I have the same one, and I'm very satisfied so far...
HP nc8430 for 1475.95, good buy?
