All,
I tried to install Windows XP on a new HP Pavilion 6780SE notebook (67xx series) and in the BIOS, there is NOT SETTING whatsoever to disable the Native SATA, which is REQUIRED if I want to install XP.
I tried installing the SATA drivers in the WinXP CD (see here). At the beginning, XP Installation recognise the drive and proceed to install. But when it tried to boot to XP, it just continous BSOD saying there is a problem with the hardware.
I called HP and they say this laptop and MOST FUTURE laptop will no longer have that option.
Is this true?? If not, how do I install XP without that option?

Even I am facing the same problem with my Toshiba - Sattelite A205 - S6812, it does not recognize the hard drive and also does not have the option in the BIOS. Howevr somebody mentioned that flashing the BIOS online might help but i dont know how to do it.... If some one can help on this ??

There is a way to install SATA drivers to the XP install CD using nLite. Problem is, I am yet to see the TextMode SATA driver for the HP Pavilion, or for that matter, ANY new laptop that use the same SATA driver from Intel.
The TextMode is the one that will be used during XP install, not a Plug-nPlay (PnP) driver using AFTER XP installed.
Looks like MS is forcing hardware manufacturer to use Vista...
Is there anyone that can help on installing XP on the Pavilion or ANY laptop that have SATA? -
Like ^ said, you have to slipstream the SATA drivers through nLite. I've successfully booted XP on a DV9700, which is the 6700's bigger brother.

send it back to hp . enough people do that maybe they will get the message .
that or buy business class HP , they still have xp pro -
PLEASE tell me how you did this. I have been struggling with nLite and various other programs for 3 days. I have a 9700 and need to get XP on it, dual boot or not.

I have tried to dual boot with my DV5, when the page loads to decide whether you want XP recovery console or proceed with install it BSOD with 007B error code. ARGH.

I think you need the ICH8 drivers. ICH9 booted up very slowly.

I set up dual boot with xp and vista on my dv5 successfully. It was very nice apart from the low audio quality in xp so I now have just a clean install of vista on my laptop (so much better without all the hp bloat).
for installing xp and finding the right drivers to slipstream see: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=291787 -
if you have a usb floppy drive make a floppy with the right sata drivers and install the drivers when xp install disc asks for them .
HP no longer allows disabling Native SATA on BIOS? (means no Windows XP)
