I just got off the phone with a HP sales rep today. I was inquiring whether or not HP was expected to release any of the 20% or 30% off discount coupon codes anytime soon. The response I received was thus:

"HP will not be releasing any more coupon codes for their laptops in the near future. This is due to the holiday season picking up and sales increasing. The reason we offered the 20% and 30% off coupon codes in the past (3-4 weeks ago) was because HP needed the business. Now that that Christmas is near, sales have picked up and the need to offer discounts to obtain business is no longer needed."

With this response, I asked the HP sales rep if they were expecting to be releasing any kind of deals in preparation for Black Friday or for the upcoming holidays. His reply was thus:

"HP is not expecting nor planning to release any kind of coupon codes either for Black Friday or for the holiday season."

So there you have it folks, straight from HP. Best to stop fretting if HP will be releasing any new coupon codes, because it looks as though they won't be.

HP isn't going to be the ones that offer Black Friday sales, thats the retail stores that offer it. I doubt if any company that doesn't have a local retail store is going to offer sales on days like Black Friday or the day after Christmas.

I don't blame you man. I was seriously looking at either a dv6500t or a Compal IFL90. Although, now that ASUS has their G1S-A1 for $1,450 bucks, that's always a consideration. =)

Yeh I have my dv6500t all built on their site ready for the coupon =( I've already put my current laptop on ebay! no turning back now, HP just messed up all my plans!!

I talked to a rep online n they said they are not allowed to tell you when their coupons will be released.. was that rep on the phone lying?

I spoke to two different online reps who told me the same thing: they weren't allowed to confirm or deny the status of coupon codes. This, then, is what prompted me to call HP directly and talk to a contact that I have there. I do consider him more of an aquaintance that a real "friend", but I do not think he would lie to me. He sounded truthful, and to be honest, he had nothing to gain by lying to me, other than losing out on a HP laptop sale which I am sure he wanted to avoid.

Arrrr sooo wish I hadn't put my laptop on ebay now :(

If you think logically here though, around the holiday season people tend to go all cheap and if Dell still have these coupons going on, their obviously going to sell more laptops in the end!

    But just my opinion...

    (Asus is way too expensive!)

HP is now the leader in sales when it comes to PC's so that's def. a reason for the coupon removal. But I can see them dropping a 20% after the holiday season..

I'm def. kicking myself for not buying the DV6500T when the 30% was around grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The ASUS G1S-A1 can be had at ZipZoomFly for $1,455... not bad at all.

Yeah its too bad they dropped the coupons but I can see why they did it. If they have the orders at the higher prices then yeah, why bother. I'm also glad I took advantage of the 20 percent coupon. I also got another 100 bucks off for forgetting to select the free lightscribe upgrade which I did not need anyway. The CSR at HP said they would do that instead of me canceling order and redoing it. So I ended up with close to 30 percent off too.

After briefly having a dell 1420 before my HP dv6500t, I can say the HP is a much better design. I know first hand that the new line of Dells are plagued with a multitude of hardware issues and QC problems. But no doubt they will increase their market share over HP with all their promos. But you get what you pay for. I don't care what anyone says, I am convinced the hardware is better on HP's. But Dells customer support is a tad better then HP's. But I'd take better hardware any day over slightly better support.

Is it me or are the online prices for CTO much less than they were a few weeks ago? Maybe HP has dropped the prices so there really isnt a 'need' for a coupon? I remember a month or so ago, when I speced the 6500 I wanted it was near $1300, now closer to $1100...maybe its just my wishful thinking not wanting to get shafted with a no coupon order?
