My out of warranty 3 year old notebook (Presario v2000) needed a new AC Adapter last year, so I bought one in October/2006 from Best Buy. Now I find that that adapter is broken too. There is no physical damage but it just doesn't charge my notebook anymore. I called HP to see if I can get a replacement since it is still under a one year warranty. HP referred me to Best Buy and said they were responsible. I went to Best Buy and they referred me to back to HP.
Does anyone know really who is responsible?

Make sure it's your adapter and not your ac plug. A very common problem for older notebooks is this plug breaks away from the motherboard. A simple solder job fixes it.
If it's the adapter, just go to HP and ask for a replacement. My brand new DV6000Z AC adapter works fine on my V2000Z, even though it's a slightly higher rating, so you should be able to use the AC adapter from the system in your specs. If you need the part number, I can get it from my V2000Z, and you can Froogle or search Ebay for a deal.
Or you can try to get a warranty replacement for your replacement. It should have a 1 year manufacturers warranty, at least. -
Who is responsible? HP or BB? -
Contact HP, tell them your AC adapter is less than a year old, provide your model/serial number if they request it, and ask then to honor the warranty. The only reason it would be Best Buys responsibility would be if you purchased an extended warranty from them. Most HP parts (afaik) come with a standard 1 year limited warranty.

I got my AC adapter for my presario v2000 but my I had to claim it with my Pavilion dv2500t's warranty. They still would not let me claim it on its own warranty. How odd
