Greets to all,
On Sept. 8th, HP started offering a 5400rpm 80GB HD, as an alternative to the formerly only 4200rpm drives that were offered with the zv5000z. They axed the low-end 30GB drive, leaving the 40GB at the bottom of the totem pole when they made the change. I guess they felt they had to remove one when they added one; probably someone in marketing said they'll sell WAAAYYYY more of these zv5000's if they only offer 5 choices for a HD.
On the 8th, it was a $25.00 price difference between the 4200rpm-80GB and the 5400rpm-80GB (with the 5400-80 being $175.00 more than the 40GB drive), but earlier today I now see that the 5400rpm-80GB is $50.00 more than the 4200rpm-80GB (but overall, NOW only $150.00 more than the 40GB drive).
I thought some might want to know about the new drive option, if has has been a sticky point as to whether or not to get that laptop (as the 4200's are kind of a dog for doing things like video editing and the like) - it almost caused me to get a different one altogether, until I saw they made that new one available.
Cheers,
Stevo

Just a little update on the new 5400rpm HDs for the zv5000z that I thought was amusing.
I was on the site today and getting info to get HP to kick down with a $49 price gurantee refund (as the price has dropped that much since I ordered mine on the 8th), and I noticed they added a little blurb under the newly added 5400rpm 80GB drive, that wasn't there when they first added the option:
80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive +$100.00
HP recommends a bigger, faster hard drive for higher productivity.
Maaannn, HP wasn't recommending JACK until I talked to 3 mangers and got the 5400 added to the site the next morning. It was like pulling teeth to get them to realize the benefits of adding a faster HD option to increase performance. But... much to their credit... at least they DID it. HP is coming along and listening to customers ( ...isn't that who they're building these for???) to help 'invent' better notebook solutions. Now all they need to do is add a GeForce Go 5700 to slap on that nForce3 Mobo and that lappy would totally R O C K !!!
I love hearing people's humorous stories; hopefully more people will share some of them.
Cheers,
Stevo
