    Hi guys,

It just happened to me two days ago, but I found out that my then-functioning mute and volume buttons in my HP Compaq nw8440 is not working anymore. :( I can toggle it though under the volume control properties by checking/unchecking mute, and the lights on the mute button light up when muted and turns off when unmuted. The volume buttons do not function anymore. :(

I have updated the audio drivers from the HP website but the problem still persisted. :(

I do not want to do some complicated tweaking as this machine is not a personal machine.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

I would recommend you uninstall, download the latest, and reinstall the HP Quickplay buttons program for the laptop. I had similar problems for a while, but they definitely went ahead with a few updates for me.
