does anyone tried to upgrade from the default 512MB mem to 1GB ? I am looking for a sodimm which will work with the original. I don't want to buy from HP because of ridiculous price.

There is a lot of generic DDR2 533Mhz stick around but will they work ?

If you stick with a major brand like Kingston, Corsair or Crucial you shouldn't have any problems.

i am in Canada and those specific are harder to find. I also noticed that certified memory is more expansive then generic eventhough they may be the samething. Ocz, Kingston, Corsair, PNY make generic 533Mhz modules easily available but with no guarantied compatibility.

I'm was curious if anyone tried those in that machine?

It just means there is a slightly better chance it won't work. I used KingMax memory in my old T41. It worked great. You can try one of the off brands. If it doesn't work, take it back.

i haven't found any local store which sells that type (DDR2 sodimm) and the online ones (canadian) that have it do not take back non-defective open package or at least with restocking fees. :(

    Armagedon,

If you're in Toronto, you can get KingMax memory from Canada Computers. Their site is www.CanadaComputers.com and they seem to have pretty good prices.

    512MB DDR2 533Mhz for $76CDN
    1GB DDR2 533Mhz for $149CDN

Their return policy is for 7 days (14 days if purchased online) and there's a 15% (minimum) restocking fee if it's not defective.

Only the larger stores like Futureshop and such will offer a no restocking fee return policy. The smaller shops have to make up for the loss somehow.

Thanks for the info but i found a canadian online store ( www.cendirect.com) which sell Kingston CERTIFIED memory for my laptop for $99 (512MB). I think i'll finally avoid the generic until those companies are decent enough to guaranty what they sell.

Btw i'm surprised that so little people update their laptop memory. It's cheap and really benefial. Most come with 512MB but with all the crap loaded and video frame buffer, it's almost cut in half. The nx8220 with an additional 512Mb will work way faster plus the MB trigger dual channel mode.
