Greetings
Hi have a brand new hp nx8220 which I want to use to connect to the internet via a motorola surfboard 5100 cable modem which is supposed to configure via DHCP.
The problem is, neither windows or Linux (Ubuntu and Mandrake 10.2) can connect to the internet because they can't detect the ip (Ubuntu installation reported this explicitly). In windows I tryed the modem's usb and ethernet connections and I still have no chance. All I get is something saying that the connectivity is limited or inexistent.
I directly connected this laptop to a desktop via ethernet and I managed to transfer the files I needed, but windows reported the above connectivity error.
I tryed to install all the patchs related to windows xp sp2 dhcp problem as I googled the internet for it, but I still have no chance.
I tryed to ping the laptop itself using "ping localhost" and I saw that the thernet card is working.
The rest of the hardware works flawlessly. I also have the latest drivers and the latest bios. I made a system recovery and nothing changed.
What bugs me is that I can't even connect with usb.
Does anyone know anything about this? I'm starting to enter in despair!!!![V]
