    I got this notebook at December 2004,
    and I found when I start my computer and do some normal works for serveral minutes,the system becames so slow.

    I use RMClock and find that this type of notebook was running in CPU throttle state.The CPU core speed is 1.6GHz,but the real equivalent performance is about 800Mhz.

    And when CPU is running at 600MHz,its equivalent performance is 300MHz as in the attach picture 1.

    I use mobile meter to see that when CPU temperature is above 52 ,the CPU become throttling!

    When CPU not throttle,superpi result is in picture2;
    and when in throttle,superpi result is in picture3.

    I doubt that this type of notebook have CPU performance bug that system quickly went to throttle just in several minutes!

    I've tried other notebooks and found no such problems~~~
    I think this is a severe bug of HP nx9040 ~~~

    When you start your computer for 3~4 minutes and the CPU temperature reach 52,
    the system become very slow because of CPU throttle

    :(

    Since your laptop is still under warranty I suggest that you contact HP as it might be a case where the thermal compound on the processor might not have been properly applied or there might be some other defect.
