Hi. I bought a HP dv6t qe last month with 6770m 1GB GPU. I updated my graphics driver last week using HP's support and drivers page. I'm having problems playing Minecraft. My display driver crashes seconds or minutes into running the game. Because of this, I think that the drivers I got from HP is incompatible with the game. Now, I was wondering if its ok to uninstall the ones found in HPs website for the ones in AMD's support and drivers? Will I still be able to switch from dynamic to fixed mode? Will I still be able to switch from power saving and high performance mode? Most important of all, will it solve the problem?

Sorry for all the noob questions. This is my first laptop and experience with windows OS and related drivers.

Keep the HP version of the graphics driver installed. Then, download the graphics driver from AMD and install it on top of the HP version. This way, you can still use the switchable graphics feature.

Link to AMD Mobility graphics driver (11.12) - http://www2.ati.com/Drivers/mobile/11-12_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe

The only question I can't answer for you is whether or not the problem will be solved - one way to find out is to proceed with the update and see what happens when you play Minecraft afterwards. If the problems continue to occur, you can always uninstall the drivers and start over.

I installed the latest drivers from AMD but it still crashes. I noticed that it crashes more often when the fan is louder. Could it be somehow related to the problem?

Hmmm...heat may be a related issue in this case.

Here are some things that I want to throw out: Have you updated the BIOS to the latest version? Did you also update to the latest version of Minecraft?

In addition, use a temperature monitoring utility to see how hot your CPU and/or GPU gets while playing. If high enough, then heat could be a factor here.

I have bios F.02. I'm not sure I have the latest version of minecraft. How can I tell?

I have used temperature monitorig utility both for my CPU and GPU. They are below 60 degrees celcius by the time it crashes. I can play counter strike with no problem.

Ah - you have the newer dv6-6bXX series, so you are running the most current BIOS.

I don't know how to check the version of Minecraft you are using - I don't play it. :)
