I've been wondering when there is a window's update for drivers should I use that or only use the ones released by HP?

When I still had my HP NX7000, I came across this same situation. I ran Windows Update and got a note that there were new display drivers available. Well, I already installed the lastest drivers from the ATI site and everything was running great. So I never did the upgrade.

I think all the site does, is it checks the drivers it has in its database and compares to the version you have running. As long as it doesn't match, it'll prompt you to upgrade. What version are you running and what version are they telling you to download? Are you running the HP drivers or Omega drivers? If it's Omega, that could explain it, it doesn't know what drivers your running, so it's telling you to update to that latest they have.

The drivers should be the same ones from the HP site. HP should be providing the updates to Microsoft's Update service.

So I say stick with the drivers you currently have in the system if you're running the Omega drivers or download directly from HP/ATI if you don't use the Omega drivers.

I still have the HP drivers, I tried the omega's but I didn't like how it messed with my video settings like it would have the option to display resolutions higher then what my monitor can do. I know it dosen't matter but it just bugged me.

the Omega drivers listed different refresh rates, but it wouldnt work becuase LCD's as of now only support 60Hz in laptops, I would never trust Driver updates through Windows update always from the manufacter.
