If you have done a google on the dv1000 I am sure you know that it is most likely the motherboard and as such too expensive to repair a 5 year old laptop. There are thousands of posts on the internet about this unit overheating, cooking components or damaging traces in the motherboard. They were great units but most of them failed prematurely. Unfortunately unlike other defective laptops, HP never offered any repair. We have two dv1000's and both of them are now junkers. There are some sellers on email that claim to fix the motherboards but with very limited warranty , I am not sure its worth the cost.
