Hey..
i have the HP pavilion dv6298ea.. the white one. It came with windows vista but its causing alot of problems for me so i want to install windows XP. The motherboard was manufactured by Phoenix, i read somewhere that HP has had Phoenix make a "locked down" BIOS which means i cant install windows XP ?![]()
Am really confused now.. i just wanna knw if its possible to install windows XP on my laptop and if theres a guide i can follow..![]()
Thanks..

That is not true. Many people have downgraded from Vista to XP. The only issue is Win XP SP2 wont recognise the SATA HDD since it doesnt have the necessary drivers. But you can either disable native SATA in the BIOS and then install XP or slipstream the SATA drivers into your XP disc and install. Read through this guide for further detailed steps on installing XP on a dv6000t series...

P.S - There is no BIOS lock on installing XP. The only BIOS lock HP has to do with non HP approved wireless cards. -
U said it that the windows XP SP2 wont recognise the SATA HDD.. does this also apply to windows XP SP1 ?

Which is easier.. disable native SATA in the BIOS or slipstream the SATA drivers into the XP disc.. i want to do it without any problems

It is quicker to disable SATA in bios, provided you have the option to. HP removed the ability on later revisions.

There is an equal chance of running into problems with either method. people have had BSOD's when trying to install the SATA drivers or the slipstream not working well. If this is the first time you are doing this it might take more time but follow the guide I posted above and also in the sticky and you should be good to go on the installation. -
Ya this is the first time.. Hopefully i can get it done without any major problems.. Thanks

If you have updated your BIOS, you might not have that option to disable the SATA suppport in BIOS. In that case, you can try down grading the BIOS. Slipstreaming the SATA driver using nLite is fine also. (Their latest version was just released fixing some bugs, so it should be more stable) Good luck.

i just checked.. i do have the option to disable the SATA support in BIOS ( YAY!
)
But i was just reading through the guides in the forum.. the drivers will definitely cause problems..theres a program called Driver Genius Professional.. will it help in the drivers installation part ?
