I have to ask a technical question. Has anyone ever replaced their fan on a HP pavillion model? When I am starting this model for last 2 days, there is a whirring sound that comes up right away and then right before Windows loads but then it disappears. Now, I sit on it for 1 or 2 hours but then everything is normal?

does the laptop test the fan at max speed when one starts it? The noise is coming from the back vent so I think it must be a fan / motor problem. If it is any help, then the laptop used to make this sound (the one in the beginning of the clip) when it used to start before and then sometimes after 2-3 hours of plugged in:

Yes. If the noise doesn't appear at any other time, ignore it.

I compressed aired the fan (from the vent below) and the noise stopped then but now it is back again though not so loud. There are just way too many screws at the bottom to open the laptop up! :(

It's just not the bottom. dv2000-series are quite similar to yours, just smaller. There's good thread with pictures here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=228268

That gives a hint what you would see if you wanted to open your own laptop. Of course dv6000 series have couple parts more inside but the basics are same ;)

Not impossible, given enough time and repair manual from HP website showing the order how to remove parts it is actually quite easy. Just time consuming.

For a careful first timer, I'd say 2 hours. I can replace motherboard in Amilo 2528 in 45mins but I do those few times a day sometimes. I did motherboard replacement on 12" lifebook on friday, it took almost 3 hours total as I had not done that before and it was brand new: I was extra careful and those small laptops are quite extreme build inside :)
