    No support for OpenGL applications.

That's about it for me, really. I liked mine otherwise.

You should buy it... as long as you don't use any OpenGL programs (and this issue will be fixed eventually anyway).

My only complaint is the whole "switchable graphics" issue, which seems to be the hotbutton topic of this area. I was under the impression that when I was configuring my notebook originally, that I was doing so with only the Radeon in mind. I mean, I thought was I buying a notebook that uses ATi graphics exclusively. So when I found that the dv6 "switches" it's GPU based upon power consumption, I thought at first "bonus". Yeah, why not?.. but as I dug into my new system more, it seemed that a shoddy compilation of the OEM software somewhat put my enthusiasm down a few notches. In thinking about it, I have to wonder why HP chose to go this route? It seems like by using "switchable graphics", they were simply putting a bandaid on the gunshot wound of battery life. Not an area that I had ever envisioned HP playing a role in. They build machines and software afterall. Leave graphics to the chipmakers. Afterall, the real fix would be to develop a chip that uses less power, and yet does the things that a potent GPU would normally do for a mobile system. Heck, if that can't be theoretically obtained, then perhaps delving into the area of specialized batteries.

I love my system, don't get me wrong but forcing two systems to work together that were never meant to does not seem like the best option.

Most computers use switchable graphics now, and HP has no hand in creating any of the graphics chips. It switches between the integrated Intel graphics processor and the actual ATI GPU. Yes, it saves battery life over having the ATI chip handle everything.

the fans get really loud if you have it on high performance settings.

i get about 7-9 hours on 9 cell battery with intel graphics.

what would be considered high performance setting? if i do mostly web surfing and writing essays and the usual school stuff, how long does the 6 cell last? how is the build quality?

The big question is that is this only software or something happened with the hardware in between 6000 and 6100?

Either way, the laptop is going back and I can only hope that they announce a fix very soon. Maybe by then theyll have backlit keyboards too.
