Wondering if anyone out there can help me out. I have this hp pavillion zv5000 I bought a month ago. Have 80 memory, 1gb ram and 1200 by 800 resolution. I do not know all the specs on the video card but understand it can support an external monitor resolution of like 2000 by 1500 or so. I also believe it only has the ability to connect to an external lcd with either VGA cord or s-video cords, but not DVI. Here is my question. I bought the new Dell 20.1 inch lcv (1650 by 1050) so I can have a larger screen at home. First, is there any way to get a DVI connection with this notebook or would this involve serious video card replacemnt. Second, should the lcd still look pretty good with the VGA connection? Third, this Dell monitor does have s-video connection so would s-video connection from my HP notebook be superior to VGA connection? Anyone else added a large LCD to this notebook? Thanks in advance for the advice.

The answer to one of your questions is that an S-video connection is noticeably superior compared with a VGA connection. (from what I've read, about a 20% improvement.) Do yourself a favor, though, and buy a good quality cable from the start. (Monster, etc). Many products with s-video connections come with a s-video cable in the box already. Dont even bother with those, they're junk.
