    HP quality control is abysmal - or am I just unlucky?

    Out of the 2 series 6 laptops my family owns, both have minor issues.

    The volume controls on the 6715s don't work as they should. On the 6910p the sound on the headphone jack only has one channel.

    Anyone as unlucky?

    Anyone else experienced the headphone jack defect?

    Honestly QA/QC across the board has been disappointing.

    We've got HPQ business 8510 series and nc6000 series. Aside from a overheating BIOS bug on the nc6000's (was resolved by hp-engineering in a future BIOS) and java issues (ATI video driver bug, was resolved by newer driver release by HP engineering), we've been satisfied.

    We have some dell D600s as well, and have had defective on-board NICs, and also had respective video driver issues, but after service + a new driver release, have been satisfied.

    Finally we've got Lenovo T60 series which have had issues when ducking + undocking (system NIC would disappear, system would hardlock, etc) but appears to have been resolved by newly released BIOS + driver updates.

    Still, I prefer the quality of business models over consumer models. You typically find differences to be in the chasis design (lighter+stronger), battery life (longer), size (typically a little smaller), more reliable motherboards typically, and more emphasis on system specs. They'll be lacking in multimedia software and multimedia features, but if one truly wants those features, a desktop (in my opinion) is a better fit.
