I just got my hp dv800t and it has dual 100 gig hard drives. It has an HP recovery partition on it. I burned the 4 dvd's that it asked me to burn so do i still need this partition? if not I would really like the extra 14 or so gigs of space. Also if its okay to format that partition now that i have the 4 backup discs made how do I reformat just that partition!?

    Thanks,
    Paul

If you burned the recovery set, and burned a copy of the "SWSETUP" folder - then yea... you can dump that recovery partition.... at least on my dv5000t when I run the recovery discs, it completely restores the machine to it's factory shipped state, partitions and data are exactly they way they came from the factory.

The SWSetup folder contains all your factory installed software (installers) and the drivers for the machine, pretty important if you plan re-install Windows.

As long as you have burned the recovery discs, the recovery partition can be deleted. The recovery discs will bring you back to factory state in any event, so the recovery partitions are recreated by the discs.

You can either just reformat the partition by right clicking on the drive icon and selecting format, or you can go into Comp management and delete, rename, recreate and format the partition.
